Can a Wight be damaged by magic?

Post by mostrojoe »

Hi everyone.
The M&T book says that the Wight can damaged only by physical attacks made with +1 or better magical weapons.

This means no silver weapons?

And more importantly, that means no magic missiles? No fireballs can harm Wights?

Yes for silver weapons, unless they are of +1 or better.

No to the others. The "physical" attack only means melee or missle weapons. I assume pummeling as well, but then again no one in their right mind would try to close with a Wight...😊 Without lightning bolt a horde of Wights would have feasted on my son's characters flesh and energy many times over.

from Monsters & Treasure book: Undead are immune to all mind-
affecting effects (charms, compulsions, etc.) and to poison,
sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, and death effects.

Wights are only affected by physical attacks using magical weapons
of +1 or better.

Silver won't work. Spells like MM are not physical attacks but magic and work as the spell says.

& you have to be careful when it is a wight out on the town. The gore can paint the town red !

Sorry I couldn't resist ...

I'd add holy water/oil as items that fall into the +1 area.

My point exactly on monks (and my homebrew pankrationists) some time ago. Punching an undead is never good ! That is why I kicked around ideas for blessed/magical caestus and brass knuckles, or allowing monks/panfrationists to be able to use specific weapons with their attack bonuses.

Do they have Magic resistance ? I know more powerful undead have it, but I'm not sure for them off the top of my head.
