 Covers for C&C books/mods
Hey folks, We are looking at different styles of covers for the books. I know some of you are, like me, fans of the matte covers. What about that same type of cover for the modules? We are seriously considering such a move. Your thoughts are welcome. The matte covers that we would offer WOUD NOT not protect your books from coke and coffee spills, however, the special troll lord matte TLG would use WOULD protect your books from whiskey and beer spills. These spills would be quickly absorbed by the books, allowing them to be used as sop rags later in the evening when you run out of said drink (the sop rag of course serves as a storage container to be wrung out later and fill your glass up once again). There would be a NO-MONEY back guarentee with these matte covers. If it means more of them can be made at a lower cost, and quicker, I say go for it. Otherwise, the cover style for the modules is not very important to me.

A matte cover is fine for the modules, I agree with serleran, if you can make modules cheaper go for it. I am in favor for anything that helps the Trolls out in the coin purse. _________________ CK the CK "My goddess touched me at an early age." -Grikis Valmorgen, Paladin The beginnings of my homebrew campaign world and info for my play by chat game: http://kbdekker.googlepages.com/home

Quite agreed. However, if the covers are sponge like and can sop up a spilled beverage for later consumption, I am all for it. My 1e UA almost bit the dust due to an ill-time mixture of elbow and cup of iced tea. 'Twas a sad loss of tea that could have been redeemed if the cover were made of Nerf. _________________ AD&D, Amish Dungeons & Dragons. Ordering Haunted Highlands yesterday morning for $10 w/shipping to my front door included reminded me that whatever they use to keep costs down is good 'nuff for me as well. I mean, even Dungeon magazine costs 6 or 7 bucks these days.

Thanks, finally have a picture of Thraag for all the world to see! Used a cool little program called HeroMachine to make it, as I have no artistic ability. _________________ CK the CK "My goddess touched me at an early age." -Grikis Valmorgen, Paladin The beginnings of my homebrew campaign world and info for my play by chat game: http://kbdekker.googlepages.com/home

It's great. The old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" holds true here. You've managed to sum up everything that's great about Dwarves in one pic: A mug of ale, an axe, and a jovial expression!

Cover style matters to me not. Matte, gloss or napkin material, it's all gravy.

I will chime in with the whichever works best for Troll Lord Games crowd. I can wrap a book in contact paper myself and go from there.
After seeing the infamous rust monster article from WOTC, whatever it takes to promote Castles & Crusades and help them save some money works for me. _________________ "All that we are destined to behold will reveal itself at the proper time," said Eibon.

I'm with everyone so far, I don't care what the covers are made of, as long as the material comes ot quickly and priced to move.

Hey now, I thought these board were supposed to be civilized. But anyway, I only look like a transvestite mermaid on full moons, and I don't bring my camera then so that can;t be a picture of me. _________________ CK the CK "My goddess touched me at an early age." -Grikis Valmorgen, Paladin The beginnings of my homebrew campaign world and info for my play by chat game: http://kbdekker.googlepages.com/home

Hillarious comeback to a clever razzing. Kudos to you both. I was laughing at 3am (which I try not to do since it wakes up the kids). Brian Miller _________________ "The adventure continues"

I'm all for it as long as I'll still get the same "function" out of it as long as I keep it dry.

I like the existing module covers - shiny outside, matte inside.
I can't imagine that a matte outer would hold up nearly as well, would it?
Blacktooth Ridge is a good example - I use it a lot and it's holding up way better than the B3 and B5 modules I'm playing at the same time.
Just my opinion, of course...

I love the matte covers. I like how they feel, much like a true cloth book. I rarely keep dust jackets on. But the consideration for a change does not come from any particular financial reasons, but more along the lines of giving C&C mods another way to stand out on the shelf. What we have right now is UV coated covers, which are nice and give the books some amazing durability. Chances are retailers would object, thinking that the line had a drop in quality, something we want to avoid like the plague. We're just poking around at options of course. Make them stand out, put a blue plastic covering over the top labeled "ADULTS ONLY". They will be a smash success.
Or put Plastic cover over them labeled 'For Professional Gamers Only'. Again, I think everyone would buy one.
