Here's to hoping!!

Post by Inkpot »

Please join me as I cross my fingers, chant prayers, and purchase lucky rabbit's feet, etc....

I may have found an actual, honest-to-goodness, face-to-face gaming group!! I stumbled (literally!) across a group on meetup.com who is only an hour away (that's really good for my area). I posted on their message board asking if anyone might be interested in C&C, and they responded with an enthusiastic yes!

A little background on myself: I haven't *seriously* gamed in probably 15 years. That's ONE-FIVE, folks. I've tried roping friends and family into playing, but if you've ever tried to play with someone who just isn't *into it*, you know how frustrating that can be. The problem is simple: I live in an extremely rural area that apparently is the black-hole of the RPG universe. Consequently, it's been next to impossible to find other enthusiasts like myself. I pretty much figured that my only outlet was going to be online play.

Anyways, I'm pretty psyched! Here's to hoping that this group works out!!

Best of luck to you. May the group be devoid of rules lawyers, min/maxers, cat-pee-men, and other unsavories.

*grins* Thanks, all. Guess I'd better start brushing up on the rules, huh? That should take about 10-15 minutes. But seriously, I'm in a quandry now: Out of the following, which would you suggest for a brand-spankin' new group of potential Crusaders?

1. Yggsburgh (specify which adventuring area!)

2. The Rising Knight

3. The Fantastic Adventure (D20)

4. Vakhund: Into The Unknown (D20)

5. A Lion In The Ropes

6. Other (if you can sell me on it, I'll look into buying/downloading it)

Your thoughts?

I really liked Rising Knight to introduce players new to C&C. But you can;t go wrong with Yggsburgh in either the Coverdale or Garham section for 1st lvl characters.

Agreed with Rising Knight, no question. It's a nearly perfect teaching tool for the system.

Oh, and best of luck with your game!

Lion looks like it's going to be a fun and wild adventure, I'm hoping to run it soon. But it's for levels 2-4.

I agree with Rising Knight. It's the perfect intro adventure for C&C!
Good luck Ink, I'm sure it will go well!

Keep on the borderlands. Set it near Botkinburg (to the north east), with Yggsburgh about 80 miles to the west. Then you can play Borderlands, Assualt, Slag Heap, and Yggsburgh.

Except I don't own Borderlands, Assault, or Slagheap. *grins*

Good thought, though!

All the better reason to go with Rising Knight! And Beacon at Enon Tor is a great one-shot you can throw in with it. I think the two work marvelously together.

Don't forget Brian's (miller6) Killer Cave series for later on down the road. Watch it though, they are deadly!
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I suggest using The Rising Knight. It is a great "primer" type module and full of interesting things, plus, it ties into numerous other modules which will be appearing, or have already been printed. Other suggestions are: don't let the lack of experience get in the way. Just play. Make a ruling if you must to keep the game moving, but don't resort to looking everything up. You're supposed to have fun... so, keep that as the number one goal.

Best of luck on the game! I agree with Rising Knight as a good starter....
LITR is fun, but IMO the solution of the "mystery" is too easy. Hell, you know the title to the module and you've got the solution! But settingwise its got its good points.

The 'Beacon' adventure is actually better than the 'Rising Knight' for a first adventure IMO. One reason is that the adventure provides a reason to get some simple townsfolk to adventure.

I agree with Akrasia here, Beacon of Enon Tor is a great little intoductory adventure... plus it's free!

I'd go with Rising Knight also, then I would pick up the rest of the "A" series, and your set for quite a few gaming sessions.
