Anyone use C&C with virtual tabletops !?

Post by Loggahead »

All,

I was wondering if there are ever any games using one of the virtual tabletops out there.

Fantasy Grounds, Battlegrounds, Klooge ?

I have a fully legally licensed Klooge for 1 gm + 7 clients (maybe 8, can't remember). I am willing to share if someone is intereted in getting a game going.

I was looking at Battlegrounds a couple of days ago. So far, with us using SKYPE, we haven't really been missing the mapping. I e-mail them scans of the maps I want them to have, and that has been working fine. When it actually gets through their e-mail filters.

At least that is what they tell me.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

What do you use for die rolls? The audio sounds on battlegrounds sure sound sweet. Klooge's dice rolling sucks as far as the aesthetics of it.

How do you get in on one of these games? I ordered my PHB but it hasn't arrived yet as Im waiting for the 3rd print.

Well, two of the games I participate in started with announcements in this forum. The other was announced in the Dragonsfoot forum.

As for die rolls we started using dfie rollers through websites or yahoo chat, but now we just let everyone rol their own dice, except in Don's game.

The Monday and Wed game are full up, but if your interested in playing on alternating Sundays that game still has room.

As for playing I have a great "cheet sheet" some board member made up that will give you the basics for character creation and playing.

If you want it PM me your e-mail and tell me your file size limits. If your Yahoo I know its 20 Megs.

Thanks... Haven't run much as of late due to an ever changing work schedule...
This may change... is there interest among C&Cer's for these kind of formats?

I find people usually aren't interested if they have to invest before playing to see if they like it... Chat w/ skype seems popular, but could use with some maps and pics...

I am if it can be run in a decent amount of time. What I've seen normally is virtual tabletop games taking much longer than a normal session.

Like I mentioned earlier, I have a fully licensed Klooge with clients if someone would like to help work on modifying their d20 definitions to work in C&C. The nice thing about Klooge is that it will automatically take dice rolls, add mods, calculate hit/dmg and subtract it from character sheets, monsters, etc. Once the def files are made, it will practically run the game for you.

I like what I've seen of Klooge. Seems like using that and Skype would be really cool...

Right on. Well, we could use my copy of it if anyone knows some XML and how to make us a C&C definition file for it.

The nice thing about Klooge is that it can autocalculate every roll needed in the game and simultaneously subract hp, etc. Basically a PC can choose a target, tell the GM he wishes to attack, the gm adds any on the fly bonuses and tells them to roll. It autocalculates the whole role and subtracts hp once the PC rolls dmg.

Only problem is that there are no definition files for C&C for Klooge and Im no xml programmer. We used Klooge for a HARP campaign a year or two ago and had a blast with it. It was nice having it auto spit out the critical chart's text every time a roll was made.

GRiP's sheets are fully programmable and will calculate all dierolls and have premade speech, charts, tables, etc.... and only the CK needs to buy as the players mod is free... windows only though...
Maptools is completely free and simple to setup and run...

Here's a VGT - Virtual Gaming Table Comparison Chart to help see which features they all have... most have demos as well to take for a test drive too...

Cool to see more familiar faces on here ... Hi Emryys
For more info on different VT's, go to Four Ugly Monsters, RPG Virtual Tabletop or find them on the link list at Battlegroundsgames
For questions on maps for online gaming come to me , or visit one of the mentioned sites or the Dundjinni site.

I would be interested in joining a C&C game if it fits my timetable. Or a PbP game so I can play anyway.

We have several SKYPE games going on in the US, but I think the time zone differences may be too great to accomodate your schedule. If you work some kind of odd shift that has you awake at wierd hours maybe one of them could fit.
