Slag Heap This Weekend

Post by Jyrdan Fairblade »

It looks like I'll be running the Slag Heap this weekend, as the adventuring group leaves Yggsburgh for a quest. Eventually I'll be using Bard's Gate, and maybe even Rappan Athuk
But first, I'd like to run the Slag Heap.

In any case, to help slot the module in and cut down on the time, I'm thinking of starting the module proper more or less directly at Dreddstun. Am I going to mess anything up by doing so?

I have considered many, many times to do this exact thing. I love both Bard's Gate and RARe. Unfortunately I'm right in the middle of running BG and RARe and I think it would be a little to late to go adding this to the Lands around Yggsburgh.

I don't believe so. The module seems very "open ended" or just plain open to use of towns and encounters, which is one of the things I really like about. You can pick and choose what to present to your group or let them decide.

In answer to your question, it seems quite logical that an adventuring group could bypass Gipheim and go straight to Dreddstun (or the CK could remove it and the town adventures and NPCs), quite easily.

My understanding is, that these towns/NPCs/encounters are not dependent on each other for continuity. So you can pick up the action anywhere, should you decide to do so.

Good luck and enjoy!!!

I would use both of the towns. I only say that because the "intrigue" between the Ludensheim group and the bandit Monk leader played out very well for my group. They restored Ludensheims rightful Baron and my daughters PC eventually married him. They now have several children together. 3, I think.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
