Suggested Sites..

Off to London, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Lyon France and Annecy France.

1) Any gamers there who want to grab a beer or wine or mead?
2) Any suggested sites or castles or what not?

Quite the trip! :)

Im not from either of these areas but I'm sure you will see a lot of interesting things

In Lyon, don't miss the old "traboules" in the old city, these are pathways and alleyways that connected the buildings in old time
If you have the chance, rent a car and go down to visit Carcassonne, the best preserved medieval city in the world

Have fun!

You'll be in the vicinity of some of my ancestral relatives' territories with Glasgow, London, and Edinburgh.

In the military, my time in Europe was all Italy Germany and surrounding areas. So, I can't suggest any specific places in your AO.

That said, I learned the neatest things to see and visit tend to be the little off the beaten path things. Loved wandering around little towns and stumbling onto neat little gems. I also loved the guide books to get some ideas on what is good to see without being sucked into the over hyped tourist trap sites.

Finally, trust to luck and don't be a classic 'rude American' . It amazed me how often I'd be in the middle of no where only American for miles and miles, with no one speaking English. And after being polite (starting off with an apology for not speaking Italian etc) and nice, and all of a sodden everyone speaks English, bringing you the local food you just have to try, good local wine, and making a call to their friend/old teacher to come and show off the local sites.

I got lucky and me and some friends got taken around the real best parts of Rome and then a whole day in Ostica with an amazing semi retired college professor just because my Army buddy flirted with the right girl that was in the professor's class - I stepped in and did the history geek thing when she started talking about her school work and my Army buddy's eyes glazed over (he was army and not that bright).

Thanks for the great input. In Liverpool now, awaiting all to awake. We have local guides... so yep, seeing local stuff.

I tend to naturally want to do "off the path" stuff over everything else... all good so far.. seen big city stuff... headed off to Glasgow now.

Great chat with a Chelsea Man... great cask conditioned ales. Some nice churches and older buildings. The Cavern club yesterday and some cool old ships in port.. modern fast ships too. Isle of Man has own language...

Regardless as to whether it has anything to do directly with C&C or not, this thread is something I really, really enjoy looking over. Little pieces of how our own world has greater mysteries, greater surprises than we could ever concoct in a lifetime...all material for us to grab and transport into our little games, and hopefully pass on a bit of what lies beyond our doorsteps. Hope the rest of this trip goes wonderfully, and looking forward to reading more soon.

Telhawk... you nailed that one. I stormed two castles on this trip, one in Scotland and one in France... in my mind... I actually had to do Edinburgh castle twice as we overstayed our parking and ran down and back up to feed the meter 1/2 mile away, all of it up or down. Do that in something besides a windbreaker and running shoes and life would suck.

Ancient weapons, languages, churches, building styles, where the hell fresh water came from, how they set up a jail in the middle of a stream in Annecy, etc.

Even found a gaming shop in Lyon France.

Greyblade, marched down many special allies, opened many doors and found several small hidden and ancient worlds... up in Annecy France... really kind of old too (1500 and 1600).

Go0g, Drank a pint and had some Haggis with a toast to your ancestor's ghosts.

Lurker, We had locals at every city but Glasgow and Edinburgh, but there we found some friends too. Got a behind the scenes tour of a my Mother in law's closed down church all by asking and being nice... always want the local view.. you get the best.

Thanks all, starting the 2 day journey home tomorrow... two weeks is this families limit to avoid fratricide.

Cheers all, hope to see you at Origins... will have pictures to share.
