Just bought this "modern" token pack as well, for the more "casual" look. Maybe Aergraith can find something here...

No, not at all, hey, this is fun and games- literally. So, whatever tokens people choose is of little importance at the end of the day, gnomesayin?

I like Classic Traveller, warts and all, but it is definitely a ... quirky system.

On the front page of roll20 go to the bar at the top of the page and hover over marketplace. Click on 'browse' and wait a long time. Should something happen then select "Science Fiction" in the "Genre" box

There is probably a better way but (in Frank's voice) I did it this way.

Question for y'all - re: the combat roll . .

I fire my submachine gun, it has +DM 9+ and -DM 6-.

I have a DEX of 7.

Ignoring all other DMs for the moment, what is the roll?

Thanks,

:)

Submachine gun requires a dex of 6, or you take the penalty of -2.
If you have a dex of 9, you can take the bonus of +2.
You met the dex of 6, so no penalty.
You did not meet the dex of 9, so no bonus.

So no DM (or that's how I read it: using The Traveller Book (1982))

I've been putting off buying equipment. What sector are we in? Planet? What have we been up to? Do we often get into fights? Do we often end up needing survival/camping/recon gear?

Thanks, I think I've got it now. Still trying to figure out the dice roller in the char sheet.

Is your version, the starter Trav that Gringnr uses. I have the LBB 1 and a few others, but am using Book 1.

I'm going to start on that tomorrow. Choosing equipment is my favorite part of char gen - and doing it in a space RPG is fabulous!

I will have an answer on the location soon. I know it is in or near the Precipice subsector. Fringes of charted space. Dr. Zanbureasal will have her own reasons for being there (which will be detailed later tonight), but the rest of you are a group of mercs (if that is OK), led by a grizzled and somewhat unpleasant fellow veteran (a bit older than you all) who goes by the name of Saber Wilko. And yeah, you guys definitely want to "be prepared".

Anyway, hope you don't mind me taking a few liberties with the backstory, but I'm working towards something here. So, if you all are cool with that, it should be worth it as the story progresses.

LBB, Starter Trav will both be fine. The Char sheet is for a different edition, and may not be good for everything. Mainly just to have stats visible to you and I.

PROLOGUE

The date is 107-1109. Dr. Zibâ Zanbureasal, retired surgeon and aspiring planetary ecologist, receives an urgent message. A former colleague, Dr. Aladra Chandra, has gone missing, along with a group of her students. Dr. Lonet Chadra, Aladra's father, wishes to offer Zibâ a rather large sum of money to go to Aramat, Aladra's last known location, and search for her. Lonet is asking Zibâ for three reasons. Firstly, because Zibâ has been to Aramat and is familiar with the area where Aladra was last known to be. Second, because, if found, Aladra or her students may be in need of medical attention. And, lastly, because Dr. Zanbureasal is the only person meeting the first two criteria who was near enough to be of any practical assistance. The elder Dr. Chadra has informed Zibâ that he will also be hiring a team of mercenaries to help protect the search party, and rescue the missing if it becomes necessary.

The good Dr. is willing to help, and the money is always welcome. School isn't going to pay for itself...

Lonet has also hired a team of three skilled mercenaries with an offer of 8000cr apiece to locate a group of missing students on a wild and uninhabited world called Aramat. In addition, they will each get an additional 2000cr should they successfully recover the students, or at least determine what has become of them.

[edited because part of the original backstory has been jettisoned]

Added a subsector map to the Roll20 handouts. Note that this adventure, like much of the old third party stuff, has been declared non-canonical. But in our Traveller universe, it's as real as you and I.

I just noticed that Scouts do not get retirement pay . . so I will remove from my char sheet. Good thing I got some decent mustering out cash! :P

I'm OK with the story . . with one exception:

My character, as a Scout - wouldn't take kindly to a boss type like Saber and certainly would not allow anyone to call him a lady.

And Aegraith's char is a military officer type, so I'm not sure how he sees his char with regard to Saber.

Perhaps, he could be a consultant that we use when the 2 and eventually, 3 of us might need some help deciding what to do in certain situations.

I can perhaps tone him down. His gruff nature does have a place in the overall scheme of this adventure, and perhaps future ones.

Glad to have him, but less as a leader, and more of a fellow character that we can use when necessary. And I'm fine with using him to advance the adventure.

Looking forward to the game tonight!!

Me too!

OK, well, let's stop short of calling the backstory "official" then, I will alter it as time permits today. I wanna get Aergraith's opinion, too. All good.

I mean, the adventure could just as easily start with, "elsewhere, three mercenaries have accepted a job" and dispense with the rest. It was something added on by me, with an eye towards an impetus for a continuingstory arc.
