One-off tonight: AD&D 'Tomb of the Lizard King'
UPDATE: 6 confirmed players for tonight's session.

Tomb of the Lizard King is a AD&D adventure module published in 1982 by TSR. In Tomb of the Lizard King, the player characters are employed by the Count of Eor to investigate a monstrous force that has been terrorizing caravans and peasants near the village of Waycombe. The adventure is appropriate for large groups of characters of level 5-7, or smaller groups with higher levels.
The game will be begin at 9pm EST and will use Roll20 w/Skype.
If you are interested in playing, please PM with your Skype handle so I can add you to the group. I am capping it at 6-7 players for tonight's one-off.
Character Generation:
Ability Scores: This method places the onus of attribute generation almost entirely upon the player. The player receives 76 points to divide among the character’s attributes as desired. Each attribute must have a minimum of 3 points spent on it and a max of 18 points, before racial modifiers. (CKG pg. 11)
Starting Level: Each PC begins at 5th Level.
Hit Points: Each PC has max HP at 1st level, d4 HD reroll 1's, d6 and d8 reroll all 1's and 2's, d10 and d12 reroll 1-3's.
HeroPoints: Each PC begins play with 6 Hero Points (CKG pg. 337)
Luck Points: Each PC begins with Luck Points equal to 1D6 + highest attribute bonus score (CKG pg. 338)
Starting Coin: 6000GP (Mundane Equipment Packs can be found below).
Special Rules:
Magic Items: No more than a +2 magic bonus on any item.
Perception Check: 1d20 + Highest of WIS/INT Attribute Bonus.
Clerics & Druids can spontaneously convert spells to healing spells of the same spell level or lower (i.e. restore HP's)
Wizards & Illusionists begin with a spellbook that contains a number of spells equal to the number of spells they know at 5th level + 2 additional spells per spell level they can cast.
Critical Hits: Natural (unmodified) roll of a 20 on a d20. Max damage + 1d6.
Critical Fumble: Natural (unmodified) roll of 1 on a d20. Roll 1d100: Melee: 1-33 Drop weapon; 34-66 Stumble - prone lose next turn; 67-99 Nearest opponent gets bonus attack; 100 - ALL THREE CONDITIONS! Range: 1-33 Drop weapon; 34-66 Misfire lose next turn; 67-99 Opponent with range weapon gets free attack; 100 - ALL THREE CONDITIONS!

Sounds interesting, although completing a whole module as a one off might be a wee bit optimistic (then again, the way we play, the module might well end tonight, just not with player victory )

I'm in, and my daughter MIGHT be, if her L5R group can't get together to play an extra game.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Agreed that getting through an entire module, as written, will be nigh-impossible. However, I'm excising the introduction and some of the overland travel. Random Encounters will be pre-rolled and stated out to streamline that portion of the adventure as well. How many times do you get to experience a Ranger blowing throw all of her Hero Points on a single die roll and successfully leaping onto the back a young adult dragon in mid-flight? Holy damn.... The title of 'Wyrmrider' is rightfully bestowed upon Trish.

As you suspected, there is more to the bandit attacks than the locals were aware. The local baron proved a decent sort, but something in the demeanor of his adviser put me ill at ease. The opportunity arose for us to pray with the Baron in his private chapel. I took the opportunity to relate to him the parable of our long forgotten King, Ilfar the Trusting, and his betrayal by those closest to him. My words did not seem to convince
A private meeting between my party and the baron was arranged to inform us of the logistics of the threat by "bandits", but before it could progress, we were attacked with quite strong magics by an assassin. You were right that there is much more here. Something dark and sinister.
As the others restrained the assassin, I guarded the baron and escorted him to safety. Our wizard managed to entangle the adviser in a web before he too could bespell us. A search of his room revealed that he is a follower of foul Vecna, and what is more, he is a tool of some long dead lizard man king, a legend in these parts.
My suspicion is this is no mere legend.
After meting out swift justice to the two assassins (may Correllon Larethian bless my actions) we headed directly for the foul swamp, and the lair of the supposedly dead lizard man king.
On the way we were attacked by some lizardmen. We brought "the light" to them and they rest easy now under their bridge. The local town was nearly deserted but the last resident mentioned something about bandits working in concert with a flying lizard.
We headed for the swamp and made camp for the night. While resting, we surprised a couple of brigands. Thus began an impromtu lesson in dogma ("and the light of the Father shall be as a swift arrow to the unrighteous") but one of the brutes managed to signal his "pet" to aid him. Said pet turned out to be an actual dragon
As that sinuous reptilian beast glided above us, I must admit even my devoted heart skipped a beat, but then the battle was upon us. Fortunately, the ranger did two clever things. First, she threw the signalling torch at the feet of the brigands, and thus they were "hoist by their own petard" as the dragon attacked them thinking it was us (the justice of the All Father is swift, and fair [and in this case had a faint smell of sizzling bacon])
Then, as the enraged dragon circled around to better attack the rest of us, the ranger managed to leap from her perch in the trees and land on the creature's back. Somehow, she managed to wrap her legs around its neck, and began chopping away at the trunk sized neck with her woodsman's axe. Faintly, we could hear her singing a rousing fighting song of her people
Sadly, she was never seen again

Well...I am displeased with myself. The pacing was uneven and I feel that really took away from what this session could have been for the players.

I thought it worked fine. Things always seem more disjointed on the DM side of the table because you have read the whole module, plus you wanted to compress the module a bit. From the player's side, their minds generally fill in the blanks so it "feels" fine. Plus, for one-off sessions, you are mostly going for fun and cinematic cool #$@!. Shooting torches out of hands, turning oneself into a bowling ball and bowling lizardmen off a bridge, fireballing webbed foes, and of course, riding an unwilling dragon in the middle of a combat were plenty cinematic.

You missed out, Rom was handing out Conan worthy descriptions of Lizardman limbs being cleaved off by our mighty Fighter and Ranger, and Dragons were being jumped upon, while in flight, and ridden while trying to hack off one of its wings to cripple its ability to fly, all the while holding on during Dragon barrel rolls and other maneuvers to try and get the Ranger off its back.Kayolan wrote:Had no idea about this game, I would have been there!
