C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
I won't be going to either of these conventions, but if anyone is interested in running a Society tournament at them (or any other convention), I'll be happy to share the scenario for GaryCon I'm writing with John & Gerry's able assistance. I'm keeping it between the three of us until after GaryCon, but PM me if you'd like to get a copy.

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
Will this adventure be just right for convention slots of 4 hours or less? If so, I might have interest for some of my con demos. Thanks.

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
I'm running a few C&C games at MARcon in Columbus Ohio on March 28-31. I'm looking for a good, con length adventure to run. I admit, my games often run too long. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you sir.

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
This one probably isn't suitable as a demo, as it's meant to be a challenging adventure and has the potential for a foolish or truly unlucky party to suffer a TPK in the first encounter. It should run in 4 hours, but if a group spends too long debating things or bogs down, they might not reach the climax.
I'll be sure to get in touch with both of you after it's been polished up a bit. Still have to create the electronic versions of the maps and finish the pregens.

The entire adventure package is done and exported into PDF (easiest way to get the copies printed for GaryCon). Those interested in the adventure, please PM me with your e-mail and I can either send the 4 PDFs (Aventure, Pre-gens, equipment for the pre-gens, and maps) or send you an invitation to the Dropbox folder they're currently living in.

I have never been to Marcon but I go to Origins every year. I was lucky enough to make it to Garycon this year where I played C&C for the first time. I am a longtime old school gamer and liked it very much. When are you running games at marcon? I can't find a list of games. Is it all open gaming?Omote wrote:I'm running a few C&C games at MARcon in Columbus Ohio on March 28-31. I'm looking for a good, con length adventure to run. I admit, my games often run too long. I would run C&C at AmishCon but we've decided to play games we don't normally play.

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
Hey there CT. MARcon is a small convention this year. Scheduled games will not be announced until the con begins on Friday 29 March at registration and the gaming area. MARcon games are usually more "open" than scheduled. In that regard, it's a lot different than Origins where everything is scheduled down to the hour. I am running C&C as an "open" game. It will most likely be on Saturday during the early afternoon (1pm or 2pm).quithanire wrote:I have never been to Marcon but I go to Origins every year. I know. For people who like to schedual out their time precisely, MARcon is not the best gaming con. But there is usually a pretty darned good dealer room with gaming scattered throughout the area right in front of the dealer hall and down behind the food court area on the lobby level.

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
Just a reminder for anyone who wants the adventure to run at a con, either as a tournament or a one-shot - just PM me with your e-mail and what con you'll be running it at and I'll send you the PDFs (five altogether - adventure, maps, pregen characters, equipment sheets, and CK worksheets with HP trackers and scoring).
Later in the year I'll be releasing it publicly via the Society but for now I'm keeping it to the CKs. (And the Trolls, who got a copy at GaryCon.)

I don't mind open gaming but I am trying to make sure the con is worth the admission price. $40/each for a one day is a bit much. We aren't really into the whole cosplay scene. However, we are in Ohio and the drive is only about 2 hours. Just a couple more questions. Are you near Ohio? I would love to see some games at Origins. Are you running the tourney from garycon at Marcon? We enjoyed the game alot but it wouldn't be fair to play it twice. We enjoyed the tourney and found the C&C system refreshing. So, it would be sweet to find some games close to home.

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
CT, honestly, I hate to say it, but MARcon is not the best gaming con. It is more about sci-fi, cosplay, and partying geekery. MARcon has suffered the past 2 years because they had to move it to Easter weekend. So gaming has been WAY down, and attendance has dropped off too because of it. MARcon moves back to the month of May in 2014 and years following.
I am from Ohio (Cleveland), and attend most of the bigger area cons (Origins, GenCon, etc.), as well as the smaller ones (MARcon, OhayoCon, Who's Yer Con, Con-on-the-Cob). I only attend Origins about every other year or so. I agree though.. Origins is in desperate need of alternative, and more classic games. I worry about the longevity of Origins though. But we shall see.
Yes, I was going to be running the Society game from Gary Con.

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
Thanks for the info. I will probably skip the Marcon scene. As far as Origins go, just over the past 5 years I have noted a decline in attendance, vendors and variety. At least from my observations it seems. To be honest I have thought of giving Gencon a try and skipping Origins this year. I have never been to Gencon and went to Garycon for the first time this year. I am from the very southern tip of Ohio on the Kentucky, WVa borders about 4 hours south of you. We suffer from a dearth of FLGS here sadly. Maybe we'll catch you at one of the other cons sometime.Omote wrote:CT, honestly, I hate to say it, but MARcon is not the best gaming con. Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
CT, I don't mean to sound so harsh on MARcon, but it's true, at least for this year. 2014 should be substatially better.
I have noted the decline in Origins as well. Too bad really as Columbus Ohio is such a great place to host a great gaming convention. That being said, I suggest trying on GenCon if you can. It's COMPLETELY different than Origins. Yeah, there's tons of scheduled games, but the difference is the mammoth size of GenCon. GenCon is a different animal. It's awesome, but you have to plan your games, even the ones you play in, 4+ months in advance. You have to book your hotel rooms at least 9 months in advance. All of that, and 70,000+ people at the conventions (attendees, vendors, etc.). It's pretty overwhelming, but there is no bigger gaming spectical on Earth (I hear Essen is close).
As for southern Ohio... Chesapeake... Proctorville. No gaming stores down there? I can't beleive it!

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
There is a couple stores that are "hobby" stores but they mostly deal with RC cars and no in store gaming. The closest and best choice that I know of are either in Dayton or Columbus. There are more store down in WVA that are involved in Charcon but those are 2 to 3 hours away. There used to be a few more close but RPG shops went out about the time 3ed came out. About the same for 40k. I still have an ork army gathering dust. So, I either need to move or start my own shop, lol. I have been thinking about this though. We are a growing college town with a single comic shop that only does magic and yugi-oh... There are a couple gaming clubs on campus so it is ripe for a GOOD store with in store gaming...

Re: C&C Tourney for Gen Con or Origins?
A mixed bag, Tim. We only had two players sign up and show up for the C&C game. That could be because I didn't register the game officially with the con. It was more of a "the day of, put down a sign-up sheet, and get your game on" type of thing. One player wasn't familiar with C&C, but knew 3E, 4E, etc. He wanted to play a game more like 4E, tactical, high-powered. After about 5 mins he politely excused himself and said "no thanks." The other guy Andrew(?, I think, sorry guy), was familiar with the C&C name only but thought the game was a clone of AD&D. He really had no idea about the improvements to the game. We talked about C&C, and all of the supplements, etc. I think we have a new Crusader! I caught him late on that Saturday and he mentioned to me that nobody in the dealer's room carried any C&C stuff. Bummer. Hey at least he was looking.
And if that guy should be reading these MBs, and this post, I want to say that I had a great time talking C&C, D&D, and we will get our C&C game going next year at MARCON 49. Belee dat!
