Boxed set collectors - what's in your closet?

Post by Tadhg »

Well the Trolls post about CZ boxed sets and the fact that my new D&D Basic game in a box arrived today got me thinking about my boxed set collection. I posted a thread last year at Keeper's Den and was amazed at how many boxed sets people have. So I thought I'd ask you all. What boxed sets do you currently have in your collection?

Here's mine:

D&D Blue box basic game

D&D Expert

Classic D&D

World of Greyhawk

Intro to AD&D

D&D Silver Anniversary box

D&D Adventure game (2000)

D&D Basic game (2004)

New D&D Basic game (2006)

D&D Player's Kit (2006)

D&D Chainmail miniatures game

Castles & Crusades

Lejendary Adventures - Essentials

Hall of Many Panes

Star Wars - Invasion of Threed

Star Frontiers

Lord of the Rings - miniatures game

Ravenloft - campaign setting box (red box)

Realm of Terror

The Nightmare Lands

Forgotten Realms - 2E campaign setting

FR Lands of Intrigue

All D&D miniatures starter boxes &

at least 1 booster box from all sets

D&D Clue

Star Wars miniatures starter box w/assorted boosters

Original Chainmail and OD&D white box with supplements, signed. *buffs knuckles*

Mentzer boxed sets (*signed*)

And.. The Greyhawk boxed set, also signed.
I'm not a huge collector per say. I either just pick up the odd momento, or had a strange grab bag from what I bought back in the 80's

I have 10 of the ones you listed. Plus 3 Wilderlands and 3 Rappan Athuk Reloaded.

Spelljammer

Aftermath

Couple of others.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Most everything released by TSR

Lots of other games like Cyberpunk, DC Heroes, Worlds of Wonder, Hall of Many Panes, Lejendary Essentials...

Something like 150 or so boxes.

Yes, and I have every boxed set put out for FR, such as Zhentil Keep, Myth Drannor, both undermountains, Waterdeep, and both versions of the FR itself, Horde Lands, et al... I was big into FR for about 10 years.

Oh, I also have the two books from the 1e Greyhawk boxed set, but I'm missing the big map and the box. I'm looking for a good copy of this though.

I had about ten or so boxed sets, before I had a mental fit and got rid of all of them. Since my fit, I've picked up a few in paper format:

World of Greyhawk

Forgotten Realms (1e)

The Clasic Dungeons and Dragons Game

Karameikos

But I've managed to collect a considerable amount on PDF:

Council of Wyrms

Kara-Tur: The Eastern Realms

The Ruins of Undermountain

The Ruins of Myth Drannor

Tales of the Lance

Dwarven Kingdoms of Krynn

Dark Sun Campaign Setting

Dark Sun Campaign Setting (Revised and Expanded)

The Ivory Triangle

City by the Silt Sea

Mind Lords of the Last Sea

Birthright Campaign Setting

Planescape Campaign Setting

Al-Qadim Land of Fate

White Box D&D (5th Printing)

1981 Moldvay Basic D&D

1981 Cook/Marsh Expert D&D

That's it for D&D (to be honest, the other editions of Basic never appealed to me), but I have several L5r RPG boxes (City of Lies and Otosan Uchi) and many, many boardgames. It is worth noting that all of my D&D boxes are in new, never used condition (I bought booklets of Moldvay and Cook/Marsh to read separately). Oh, I also have a beat-up copy of Holmes Basic (I bought this mainly for B1 In Search of the Unknown, though).

For C&C, I have Upper Works (x2) and the Collector's Edition box.

Back in the day, I had every 1st (not many there) and nearly every 2nd edition box set there was to be had (minus Dark Sun, Spelljammer, Al-Quadim, and Birthright). I sold my collection in 1999, but over the last 2-3 years I've been slowly it back.

My box sets:

OD&D 3rd Print, "Woody" (only thing from my original collection still with me) signed by EGG

BD&D Basic Box (Mentzer)

BD&D Expert Box (Mentzer)

BD&D Companion Box (Mentzer)

BD&D Master Box (Mentzer)

FR Box Set, 1st Edition "Grey Box"

WOG Box Set, 1st Ed.

Kara-Tur Box set

The City of Greyhawk box set

From the Ashes box set

Harn World Box set

StarSIEGE box set

Gazetteer of the Known Realms box set (Goodman Games DCC setting)

Wilderlands of High Fantasy box set

CZ: Upper Works box set

Still got a long way to go.

Not a fan of box sets.

Boxes tend to fall apart while all my hardbound books sit safely on the shelf.

Just glancing I see Wilderlands of High Fantasy. When I received it, I looked at the books and said.

"Couldn't they have hardbound the volumes instead?"

I own Yggsburgh, but I have not bought Zagyg...first question was,

"Couldn't they have hardbound the volumes instead?"

I have books from 1st edition in good shape...but all my old box sets get crushed, and the booklets misplaced.

Is this the Black Box? I have my 5th Edition Black Box but it's a little beat up [teen years also] but I must say it is probably the coolest looking Box set ever.
