Well still related except it takes place 60 years after and not 600 years after.

Still looking forward to the read though.

Thread necro...

I just finished reading Might and Magic: The Sea of Mist by Mel Odom. It's a book based on the Might and Magic games (more on the HOMM games than the CRPGs). I figured it would be pretty bad... and it started out that way. But Odom is a pretty good writer so I stuck with it. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. When I had finished it I was ready to move on the the next one in the series (since it's obviously meant to have a sequel due to its ending)... but alas, like many novels based on games... the sequel was never written. So, I was left feeling a little empty because I actually wanted find out what happens next.

Now I've moved on to another novel based on a computer game... this time it's The Infernal City: An Elder Scrolls Novel. It's obviously based on the Elder Scrolls games (more specifically it takes place after the events in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion). It's written by Greg Keyes (another fairly good writer). I'm about 4 chapters in and I'm enjoying it. It's light and a quick read so far... but that's what I'm looking for at the moment, so that's okay. It's the first book I've chosen to read on my new Kindle (just got it for my birthday)... so I'm pretty excited about that. I've already added more books to my Kindle (some Saberhagen, Robert E. Howard, Lewis Carroll, and some D&D novels)... but I thought that a quick RPG based romp would be fun to start with. We'll see how it goes.

Have the same problem. Nook Tablet recently, now I'm simultaneously reading a dozen books!
A Spell for Chamelon (Xanth #1) by Piers Anthony
Never was able to get into Anthony's novels, which is a shame. We had a mutual friend, and Anthony evidently put my wife (Cherie) and me into some of his material.

Back on-topic - Am currently (well, not CURRENTLY. Currently, I'm typing.) reading:

Newbies' Guide to Nook Tablet,
C&C CK Guide,
Fantastic Four 18 - 50 in a clump (especially letters pages - really takes me back)
Origins of Tolkein's Middle Earth for Dummies
Jesus the Christ
Nook Tablet Survival Guide
A New Look at Book of Mormon Geography
1 Thessalonians
Alma 32
30 Years of Adventure: a Celebration of D&D
the Politically Incorrect Guide to the Sixties (seeing how much of my memory matches up)

DUDE. You are in for a treat. But stop after the first 10 - the ones Zelazny actually wrote himself. I re-read the series every 3-4 years or so.

I was inspired to take a listen to some Appendix N offerings I've never read before. So since I had several long drives across country, i ended up buying a few audiobooks - Jack Vance's Dying Earth, and Frank Leiber's Swords & Deviltry. Finished those up and am now listening to Frank Leiber's second book with Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser - Swords Against Death.

Pirate Freedom by Gene Wolfe.

Been on a Gene Wolfe rampage of late. Can't stop reading the guys, fantastic stuff. I've read the following over the last 3 months.

The Fifth Head of Cerberus (1972)
The Devil in a Forest (1976)
The Book of the New Sun
The Shadow of the Torturer (1980)
The Claw of the Conciliator (1981)
The Sword of the Lictor (1982)
The Citadel of the Autarch (1983)

The Urth of the New Sun (1987)

The Soldier series
Soldier of the Mist (1986)
Soldier of Arete (1989)
Soldier of Sidon (2006)

There Are Doors (1988)

The Book of the Long Sun
Nightside the Long Sun (1993)
Lake of the Long Sun (1994)
Caldé of the Long Sun (1994)
Exodus From the Long Sun (1996)

The Book of the Short Sun
On Blue's Waters (1999)
In Green's Jungles (2000)
Return to the Whorl (2001)

The Wizard Knight
The Knight (2004)
The Wizard (2004)

Pirate Freedom (2007)
An Evil Guest (2008)

Holy crap that's 22 of his books in 3 months. I'm on a tear. Still have Peace (1975), Home Fires (2011) and The Best of Gene Wolfe (2009) (short story collection) to read!

Way to make me jealous, Dacha! I used to read like that until about 5 years ago... I have a daughter of about 4 1/2 years... might be a coincidence, LOL.

To read Steve King's The Wind through the Keyhole* recently (which I loved) I had to be hospitalized (I'm fine).

*If you havn't heard and you're a fan, it's like, # 4.5 of Dark Tower. I think the Marvel comix project got him back into the Dark Tower headspace and another novel-length tale sprang forth.

Reading The Island of Doctor Moreau on my kindle right now... never read it. I'm on a "classics" kick lately. I'm enjoying it quite a bit... for me it's much better than Frankenstein (which I read a couple of weeks ago). Just my opinion.

The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce. Some things are as true as ever and others are just hilarious. I do wish it was a longer work, perhaps, to define more things but such may be the work of another lexicographer.

Try Saintspeak by Orson Scott Card. It's "supposedly" ghost written (literally) by Bierce as a direct sequel to the Devil's Dictionary. Brings it up to 1990, at least.

Currently I am reading The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer, Wild At Heart by John Eldredge and The Silmarillion by Tolkien. The latter is an attempt to start at the beginning and go all the way through LOTR as a complete narrative.
