Product Tenability
The point of this thread is for my own knowledge and does not reflect on anything TLG will, or will not, be releasing in the future, though I may if the results indicate a possible interest. Of course, if I am to do it, the length of time required will be increased as I will need to find artists and learn layout and whatnot, so don't take that into account on your prefernce... I'm just being upfront and honest on the status.
Anyway, on with it, as a door #3 snake would say:
Would you be willing to purchase, most likely in pdf form, or print-on-demand a product that included the following items:
Creature Crucible (a make-it-yourself monster creator system) [done; may be revised]
Dungeon Generator (a make-it-yourself dungeon builder) [done]
Town System (a build-your-own settlement creator system) [in progress]
Artifacts and Relics (an artifact powers and abilities guideline system) [in progress]
Spell Schematics (guidelines for spell design) [in progress]
Treasure Tables (alternate treasure system) [done]
NPCs (non-player character creation method) [in progress]
Class Builder (guidelines for class construction) [75% done]
Army Builder and Mass Combat System (build armies and send them to war) [in progress]
Or, do you think all this stuff should go into the CKG?

Hey, Serl,
I was sort of torn between "Partially" (my vote) and "belongs in the CKG".
Creature Crucible: I think that should go in the CKG, unless it is too involved to reside in that tome. If that is the case, I would buy it.
Dungeon Generator: I already have the 1e DMG and the d20 Dungeon Craft book as sources for dungeon generation. IIRC, the GFW series from TLG will also have a dungeon generator in one of the upcoming books.
Town System: (See Creature Crucible above)
Artifacts & Relics: Belongs in the CKG
Treasure Tables: Belongs in the CKG
NPC's & Class Builder: I'd buy that as a combo book.
Army Builder & Mass Combat System: I'd buy that as a combo book.
Hope that helps!
Happy gaming,
Zudrak

It took me 13 minutes to write up why. Stupid work! (j/k)

I think most of that is CKG material. The treasures, artifacts, and relics belongs in the next M&T because that is where that stuff is in the initial release. So a similiar pattern should continue to be followed.
As for pdf sold by you, if you just want a couple of dollars/30 pages to compensate you for your ime I'll pay for them as is. If you want around $5.00 commission the art and such.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Hey Serl,
From what I've seen of your work, I like it. While I believe that a lot of these should be in the CKG, I'm just as sure that they all won't be due to either space constraints or other reasons. There are also some things I would love to see regardless if they are in the CKG or not.
The items I would care for the least are the Dungeon and Town generators, or the Treasure Tables.
As for the rest, my willingness to drop cash would be colored by the detail and production value of the document.
Here's an interesting suggestion though: Why not collect all of these into a single volume? Sure it'll take longer to put out but it'll be a very nice collection. I'd probably be more willing to drop cash on something like that even if it were to be (obviously) more.
Besides, even if these were *all* to be covered in the CKG, that wouldn't stop me from also picking up something that you've done. A different perspective on things is always good right?

Well, not knowing what's going to be in the CKG, and not knowing whether I think these items should be, I'm definitely interested and would be willing to purchase a PDF. I know your work and I find much value in things that I've seen. And I'm sure the PDF will be priced well.

I voted for "in the CKG" only because, as I see it, that is where it all belongs. But if something doesn't make it in there, for one reason or another, I'd definately be willing to spend some cash on your material. You're stuff is the s**z-nat.

Dude, you're time is well spent. You're contributions to gaming material are superb and could easily be sold as viable products.
I'd add, as others have said, that presentation is the key to success. Us writers go nowhere without our artists...God bless 'em.

Serleran, if you wonder if your products are viable, take a look at the M&T to find your answer. If you wanna hit the market, you have what it takes. You already have proof your stuff sells.
Those with an inside scoop know Davis is writing the CKG. Some could easily think it's you, which could explain the amount of "CKG" responses to your poll. I know I thought that at first.

I voted for "goes in the CKG" mostly because I'm lazy. I don't tend to buy small pdfs (even though they don't cost much) because I have limited time and energy to seek them out. I have bought a few pdfs, but mostly of adventures that I used to have or wanted back in the day and couldn't get (JG stuff mostly). So, while I echo the praise for Serleran's work, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy multiple pdfs. I know I'll be getting the CKG, however. And since the stuff you mention looks good, I'd prefer to see it in the CKG.

Creature Crucible: CKG
Dungeon Generator: PDF
Town System: PDF
Artifacts and Relics: CKG
Spell Schematics: CKG
Treasure Tables: CKG
NPCs: CKG
Class Builder: CKG
Army Builder and Mass Combat System: PDF
I feel like the "How To" sections (how to create monsters, treasures, artifacts, spells, and classes) are nuts and bolts to C&C and should therefore be in the CKG. The gravy (town makers, dungeon makers, a mass combat system) do fine as PDFs.

A little clarification: this idea is not to sell each separately, but as a combined resource, unless it seems that more people are interested in certain aspects over others, which then indicates those have a better chance of being viable as opposed to the "big deal." Also, its got less to do with making money (that would be nice) as it does for "is this something the C&C community is interested in?"
As for thinking I am writing the CKG... well, that's natural. I have submitted things to it, but so have many others. Perhaps most of this is good for such a work. In truth, discovering such things kills two birds at once.
Thanks for the feedback thus far.

Although I realize it is most likely not going to happen, I would like to have a CKG much like the 1e AD&D DMG. Less 'options' and more of the useful stuff in one source. The sort of material in the 1e DMG Appendices, expanded. The fact that it contained most if not all that very useful material all in one sourcebook might make it a very strong seller. So all listed above in a CKG, plus traps, construction guides, alchemy rules...the works. And leave out things like ways to tweak the rules. That sounds like a C&C version of more PRCs and feats, to my mind. Why not put out a product that is so useful it would sell to anyone playing a fantasy rpg, as well as the core C&C players? Like a combination of the 1e DMG and the Arcanum plus material covered in various supplements over the years. What a treasure that would be!
OH, yeah, thanks, I forgot to include in the list a few things:
Banes and Balms: Herbalism in Fantasy Games [done]
Alchemy 101: A Primer [50% done; needs revision]
Morale: Or, When All Else Fails -- Run! [done]
Magic Item Creation Expansion (tied to Alchemy 101 and B&B) [50% done; needs revision]
So, in essence, what I'd be offering is a sort of micro-CKG. Of course, if it is felt that this should go into the actual one, I will do what I can for such a thing.

Actually, what you are doing sounds like something I would buy in a heartbeat. Why not just publish it yourself, then? CKG or independent, to tell you the truth I think the gamers of the world would love it! And I have a feeling that the CKG as described in the fliers wouldn't be that useful. Best to leave the core rules as they are, because they work. A book of optional rules, not such a good idea, IMO. A supplement like you are talking about, on the other hand...
