Old school goodness
Old school goodness
Found these at a used book sale for 20 cents each.
They're like a who's who of TSR in 1980...
Author Rose Estes (wrote Greyhawk novels after Gary wrote the first two)
Cover Larry Elmore (I dare say his later paintings were better)
Editor Troy Denning
D&D Consultant Frank Mentzer
Illustrations by Jim Holloway (below) and Timothy Truman (I don't know him by name, but the illos in Return to Brookmere are good!
How much fun is this? And it's a Choose your own adventure book! Remember those? I've been reading Dungeon of Dread all week (I must brag, I won on my first try, stole the treasure and killed the evil wizard! SWEET!)

*chuckles* Well, after 29 years I'd say he's bound to have improved a bit.

Well, I meant even the 2nd ed books his paintings looked better.
but yes, you can't do something for decades and not get better.

I'm gonna guess your not a comic collector then? because Timothy Truman is a fairly well known name in the comic world. The best example of Truman's awesomness is the old GrimJack series from First comics back in the 80's. If you can find some check it out, very cool concept and character.
Nice find by the way. I remember those books (and similar ones) and even tried some.

Guilty as charged.
More of a Marvel man, and my brother was the big comic collector, so I never had to bother. Recently been back in the habit but I hate pamphlets so I wait for the TPBs so I'm always a year behind at least.

Temporary threadjack: Well your in luck because Grimjack has been reprinted into trades by IDW comics. If you like inter dimensional, badassary that enables all sorts of stories and cross genre's up to and including fighting off demons alla Rock n' Roll style side by side with Jimmie Hendricks? Then I guarantee you'll love this book. : unthreadjack

I used to have a few of those books, but I got rid of them many years ago..
I wish I had kept them. Congrats on your find though.

Re: Old school goodness
Excellent find, bossman. Call me crazy, but I like his stuff from that era. So rough and "basic" (that's not quite the word I'm looking for...)
I see some every now and then at my local used bookstores, but I never pick them up...maybe it's finally time.
