...These damn Civony ads! The IMVU ones with the bad enough with the kissing lezzies but this is getting ridiculous. I can't go anywhere without seeing a bimbo wanting me to play the stupid game. Is there anything we can do about this.

I highly recommend using FireFox with the AdBlock Plus add-on. Those ads (and just about all others) will disappear.

Yes. Download Firefox and use an ad blocker. I don't see any of these ads.

Apparently the ad company behind it thinks all gamers are 14 year old boys.

I've never seen an ad on this site. I guess adblock plus is doing its job.

Yep. It's rather amazing how effective Ad Blocker is at its job... I hardly see ads on *any* site I visit.

Even if an ad does manage to make it through, you can simply click Block and it goes away. Another good, but sometimes annoying, plugin / extension is NoScript. It can be annoying when you forget that most websites run some type of script and then have to either authorize that one permanently or temporarily, but it certainly cuts down on the annoying stuff like re-directors.

I have Firefox with AdBlock Plus and I am still seeing the adds. Any way to manually filter the things? I know in options you cna add filters, I am just afraid to try it because I would likely end up blocking this whole site.

This is the only site I go to that the particular add occurs on. Though she'd be more attractive as a redhead. *insane grin*

It's possible to undo though which makes it well worth the effort!

Tree, you might simply try uninstalling/removing the AdBlock plugin and reinstalling it.

Ok, that is weird... if you're simply trying to add ads to be blocked, you might try right clicking them. I think there should be an option for that.

I think I figured it out, Tree. Again, this assuming you are using Adblock Plus 1.1.

In FF, under the Tools menu, select Adblock Plus Preferences. Then select the Filters menu. Then select the Remove All Custom Filters.

Granted, that is a complete reset.

I have no custom filters, I have no filters listed. How do I get them?

Treebore, if you've got no filters, open up Tools->Add-ons from the firefox menu.

Then click "Options" under Adblock Plus.

Then open, from the Adblock Plus menu, Filters->Add filter subscription.

From there, select EasyList (USA), and confirm by clicking Subscribe.

Now click Apply/OK on the Adblock Plus menu, and you should have working ad blocking.

I prefer to use a HOSTS file. Does the same thing as Adblock, but does it regardless of what browser is used.

The ads don't bother me so much. I'd have to say Civony is the lesser of two evils, My Lord. I have to say, I miss that ad featuring the bar wench with the "huge tankards of ale". Good times, good times.

Sure, and you have to manually edit it every time you want to add something to block. AdBlock comes built-in with a monster list of things to automatically prevent, which is a major time saver -- rather than build your own database, it has a good groundwork done for you. Also, if you install FF on a USB drive, it will port to any computer, and you don't have to worry about copying and replacing the HOSTS file wherever you go, which may not even be possible depending on the security.

Course, with a HOSTS file you can actually block the site from coming up at all... sort of like a self-imposed URL filter.

So, both have advantages, but the AdBlock way is more user friendly.

Indeed. Doesn't look like the sharpest tool in the box, either. Still, at least it looks like someone rescued that dopey bloody queen.
