Hi all. Wonder if someone with experience playing or running a Class and a Half character can help explain how the XP points work. The PHB says “Experience points needed for level advancement are determined by adding the XP of the principal class to one half the XP of the supporting class”.
So given the level progression of 1/0, 2/1, 3/1, 4/2 etc. how does this work? Let’s say we have a Rogue/Wizard.
Would it be half of the supporting class if at the same level as the Main class? So if moving from 1/0 to 2/1, it would be the full amount for Rogue to advance to level 2, and ½ of the amount a wizard would need to advance to lvl 2, even though they only advance to lvl 1? And so on.
Or is it half the XP for the supporting class as listed. So 2/1 to 3/1 would be the full amount for a Rogue to move 2nd lvl to 3rd lvl, but only ½ of the amount a wizard would need to move from 0 lvl to 1st lvl?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Class and a Half XP calculation - Help
The paragraph below the XP note quoted states that the class and a half is intended to be considered a cohesive whole (paraphrased). So that would seem to indicate that it applies as written; ie. Prime Class needs 4000 xp, Secondary Class needs 4400 xp to advance. Add all of Prime to 1/2 of Secondary (4000+2200) and the Class-and-a-half would need a total of 6600 XP to advance to the next level, both having the same level when achieved, such as 3 rather than 2/1 or 3/2 etc.

This was answered over on Facebook, but the answer (according to Expanding Classes) is that it is 1/2 of the XP if the Supporting Class were the same level as the Primary Class. So for a WIzard, it would be
Expanding Classes really does a nice job of laying out the EXP cost and what abilities are gained at each level of support, so is highly worth it IMO.

If you are a 4th lvl PC full experience at 4th for your prime class and half of 4th for your half class.
