simplified character sheet for beginners?

Post by capmarvel »

I know C&C is "rules light" (or at least "rules lighter"), but the Character Sheet can still be "intimidating" for a beginner.

Has anyone take a stab at a simplified sheet for "newbies" that has the "minimum" to get a character going?

Obviously this may also be useful for "veteran players" that just want to do a quick game.

Argoforg created a simple fold character sheet and someone else had done a "notepad" sheet, both are still on the C&C resources page over at Dragonsfoot http://www.dragonsfoot.org/cc

Thanks for the link!

However...I'm assuming of the lets say 50 categories on a character sheet, you only really need 20 (or 10) to "get started". Maybe that's not true...I'm still learning (not far into Players Handbook so far). Basically want a simplified sheet for myself and perhaps my kids (assuming I can convince them to play) - I don't want them to feel intimidated that their doing an advanced physics test instead of playing a game. I don't know the rules enough yet to know what to strip out and still keep the game "playable".

Hope that makes sense.

PS - some may say "well, just play Savage Worlds then if you want only 10 things on a character sheet"....or play Basic Fantasy or something ....well, I want to play C&C :D

For beginners? I want to use this!
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

That's slick!
I might just suggest adding check boxes for Prime Attributes, but that's easy to do without them.
I really like this!

The circles next to stats. One for attribute modifier, one for siege target number. I wanted to leave it slightly ambiguous for all the house rule variants. Like 12/15/18, 12/14/16, 0 +2 +4, 0 +3 +6, etc. It easily fits the variants into single character sheet.

Oh duh.
I took that as the first one is + or - and the next one is the modifier.

That's pretty nice Peel! I've got a 10 year old son who has several friends around his age I was considering introducing to some classic RP Gaming, and this is pretty much a perfect sheet for such project.
