Crusader's Companion

Crusader's Companion is a compilation of third-party material for Castles & Crusades.

This is currently a work in progress, no ETA on when it will be done.

The 2018 version will contain everything the other 2 versions had except for the following:
Any OGC present in the PHB, M&T, Classic Monsters, or OG&M.
Campaign specific material.
Duplicate material. Material is kept in the following order: TLG OGC, Gary Gygax, Fan, Conversion (OSR), Conversion (d20).
Unknown source. Some material I don't remember where it came from.
Whole generic products, unless Gygax.

I'm looking for some feedback on the new layout.

I like it. Its easy to read, easy to spot specific things I look for.

Thanks, I figured I'd go for a larger font this time. The 8.5pt was kind of dinky I kept it smaller for tables tho, but indented them so they don't look so crunched. The title font I'm not happy with. Figured purple for something different. I was going to stick an image border for headers and footers like in the RC, but I'm not seeing anything I like. I tried a few images but it seems like a bit much. I have a lot more colored art this time to use. Thoughts?

I just realized this thread is in other games from before. Can a mod move it to Open Discussion?

This should be in the C&C discussion forum.

Yeah, since this is PDF only, and is likely to never be printed, unless you make a Lulu compatible doc available, there is no reason to do all the space saving things they do for print products.

A couple of quick questions: 1) I have the original so is this an update and revamp of it? 2) Is all the material from the original coming back? I really liked the new races, spells, classes and such that you added.

As far as printing goes I would love to see a Lulu version sold at cost like BFRPG does (possibly the only way you can do it anyway). I have been thinking about having my original printed but, if you are going to add everything in from the original I can wait. I'll give more feedback as I get time.

Yeah, this is a magnificent work! I would love to see a Lulu version available, either as a PDF download or at cost on Lulu.

How are you laying this out? I have some Adobe Fu and Creative Suite...

I didn't get a chance to see this version. Any chance of getting it uploaded again Peter?

I'm at it again, from scratch. Not because I'm returning to C&C, but because I don't like unfinished or sloppy projects and I need a project to bounce to when my main one is aggravating me :P

This version of the Companion will contain everything from the 2 main versions floating around, minus anything that is already into the PHB, Classic Monsters, Of Gods & Monsters, M&T, and possibly the Demons book (I'll know when I know what/if any open gaming content is in it) and minus any duplicates.

The first post has updated links of my very early progress.

Very nice, and a big thumbs-up from me. I like the layout, the font size -- it's all really readable. Good work on this!

Thanks. I am reusing my layout from my main project, which itself evolved from the original Companion. Would you mind moving this thread to open discussion?

Will do. I assume you mean the "Laws and the Chaos" one and not the "general" one.

Very cool.

When listing out the spells in the table of contents, could you add text "Spells Starting with A", indent the spell, then "Spells Starting with B"?

While I prefer the thousand+ page monstrosity you did before, most will probably like this much more concise version more.

I could, but what is the advantage of this? All the spells are in the TOC and will be in the index.

That monstrosity caused too much trouble, it was pretty neat tho :P

I thought it would be easier to see where spells started and ended.
Like you did with traits. It looked really clean. Plus, some spells are at the end of a letter (like Lower Resistance), one could see where "M" was located knowing that it would be closer to M than L. Plus you eliminate a lot of searching within the title.

Most of the conversions don't look too bad after all. I am still going to thoroughly check them tho. With the enlarged font and the combination of materials, I am probably looking at least 500 pages.

Last I checked the Trolls still host a version of it on their store website.

Yep, although like the Freeport Companion, some of it is not going to make the final cut. There are some things that are too campaign specific. Basically, stuff that relies too heavily on people, places, etc.
Last I checked the Trolls still host a version of it on their store website.
It should be in the C&C Society's file area too.

I hope it is. Maybe Todd will confirm. I so rarely go to that site.

Before I re-add the Demons and Devils, can someone who has a copy of the Tome of Unclean tell me if the monsters are open gaming content, and if so, list them out?
