Okay, so this guy is on target for August, no problems yet (famous last words, knock on wood). The box will go to press next week and we'll get that done and ready to go.

Are we talking GenCon-August, Steve, or just "August?"

Is James still preparing to let us play with this at Trollcon?

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I can run a 3 hour Tainted Lands adventure on Saturday morning and on Sunday morning.
Tainted Lands Adventure
The King is worried, his favorite inn out in the country has suddenly stopped communicating. He sends 20 King's lancers out there and five days later they haven't come back. From the city all that can be seen is a dark cloud in the distance. He orders his chancellor to get together a group of adventurers and send them that way.
An adventure for any level character. Players should bring their favorite character to the adventure table. The Tainted Lands will become a horror box set released at Gen Con, but you get a sneak peak by the author of the C&C RPG, James M. Ward.
Even with people bringing high level characters there is going to be a lot of death in the adventure. I said we could do up to 8 a session.

So you want us to bring our own characters James? Any guidelines?

I won't be at Gen Con. I don't have guidelines for brought characters because 20th level characters can easily walk with 5th level ones in this adventure and if they don't do the right things the 20th level ones can die just as fast as the low level ones.
This is a horror adventure and it's going to be grim. Characters who walk away from it will be extremely lucky.

As it turns out I am going to Gen Con and I'm going to be in the Troll Lord booth at least two times during the show if you need an autograph.
I'm coming with another company and we are going to do Panzer General board game demos in the demo area.
Also I'm running two Tainted Lands games at Troll Con.

Glad to see you will be making it, after all, James. I will try to catch you at the Toll Lord booth

Good news Jim! I look forward to sneaking in a game of Panzer General, and of course getting a signature on a Tainted Lands box. Good deal.

I ran three games of the Tainted Lands adventure that comes into the box set. The players had some hard times and only a few of them escaped the encounters. I'm thinking I might pull back a bit on the danger. I will have to wait and see what Steve's play testers say.
I thought the horror elements worked well. I did have one player character kill himself from fear.

I'm really looking forward to this boxed set Mr. Ward. Do you know if it's still on target for release around GenCon?
I've recently converted my game-group to C&C with the expectation that I'd like to throw a little horror their direction. Tainted Lands sounds like just the product to put a little scare in their heroes .
Thanks!

I am really starting to get interested in this. I wasn't initially, as I never got into the Ravenloft setting, and it seemed like everyone was saying this was a clone of sorts. The more I read about it and hear the comments posted, it seems that it is it's own entity. I was a huge fan of warhammer fantasy back in the day, mainly for the whole flavor of the setting. With the chaos, insanity, and the general futility of the PC's struggle, it's dark and bleak tone was great for those of us who were jaded beyond belief. It takes a special (and insane) type of player that knows full well that his character will die horribly or eventually go slobbering mad, and yet bellies up to the table with a crazed grin and says "lets get started!". I have a feeling that TL will have enough flavor to keep me interested. I hope to get a good look at it at GenCon.

The full box set version of this game should make Gencon. Pre-orders will begin shipping out after the show. The full release will occur about two weeks after that.
So look for this book in stores near you in the second week of September.
Thanks for playing.

Thanks, Jim. I think it may be some of the best rpg art I've ever done, imo. Seriously. I had alot of fun with it and hoping to do more in the future.

I just went through the editing of the Referee's book for TAINTED LANDS. I did some unusual things that the editor didn't quite understand.
I'll let the readers of this forum in on some TAINTED LANDS SECRETS.
Spells: There is a new character class called Portal Keeper and he's just a souped up wizard. He has a few interesting new spells. However, there are a slug of new spells in the TAINTED LANDS that the referee alone knows about and you will be seeing them used by the NPCs of the game. These spells can be learned by others in trades, but only if you are in the TAINTED LANDS.
Lichs': There are seven lichs' in the TAINTED LANDS that are the big boss monsters of the lands. To escape, it 'appears' as if you are going to have to hunt down all seven. Only four of them are named. My thinking is that you have to work hard to find all seven. If it's too much work, you shouldn't be in the TAINTED LANDS.
Unexplained Magic Items: I took a lot of heat for this one. I name several sets of magic items and I purposely don't explain their powers. I do this so that the referee can make those items original to their campaign. At any time if one of you want me to 'suggest' powers for those items ask me on this forum and I will be happy to give my thoughts.
That's all I can think of for now. I'm really looking forward to seeing the set at Gen Con. The last booklet is printing even now.

Yeah, sounds good. The suggestions you have Mr. Ward, can be put into a Crusader article or even a free article/download on this site. Personally, I LOVE the idea of making some or all of the items left to the CKs discretion. I can see how that would be a problem if the names of the final 3 liches and magic items weren't given AND there is no explanation why. Though, is it too much too ask for a follow-up product for Tainted lands already?

Cant imagine why one would take heat for it? Seems a sensible way of going about it to me.
