Save For Half episode # 18: “James Bond: 007 by Victory Games"

It’s Half. Save for Half, and this time the Fab Four are discussing that espionage title of RPGs from the 1980s, the James Bond 007 RPG from Victory Games. We are joined by a fifth guest host, DM Gary, who is not only well versed in the game but is the 007 RPG Gamemaster for DMs Mike and Liz’s ongoing "View to a Kill" adventure. Car and snowmobile chases, Ease Ratings, and Five point (or is that Six?) Seductions are all here for your listening enjoyment!

No covert agents were harmed in the making of this podcast, only overt ones.

Can't wait to listen to this one.

The girls are about finished picking the Mulberries so I have to was them and get them ready to put in the freezer. After that I'll be all ears.

I remember 007 from back in the day. My group bounced between it and TS when we wanted a modern spy game. I wonder if any of my notes survived all those military moves and years in boxes with all my other old random RPG things ...

Let us know what you think...?

Also, (and this came up in the show) did you ever run any original adventures or did you just run the modules/movies?

As always good pod cast

It reminded me why we played TS more than 007

TS fit the group (more players, and more of a strike team Mission Impossible mindset) better than 007, but it was still fun for 007 even though, like it is pointed out in the pod cast, with larger group play losing the feel of the 007 setting.

I can't remember ever playing any seduction scenarios - again the mindset of strike team instead of as you all call it Glam-spy -

It was a good point on buying 'average size/looks' costing more. It always felt odd, but after being on a recon team it is actually more realistic. You want a nondescript person that isn't easily noticeable in the area. However, that does still go against the feel of 007

Rgr on liking 'time is the enemy' . I have always felt that in any 'spy' game, and heck some hero games, the time an even is going to happen is the driving force behind the scenes. Even in the one offs of 'Modern Victory" I ran for you all, behind the scenes time was clicking down and you all had to do something to stop it from happening, if you didn't act fast enough something happened that made things even more difficult for you all. Time clicking away is the true enemy !

For play back then, I can't remember playing a movie scenario it was always something the GM made up. We were all to big a fan of the movies to play the movie scenarios. However, the GM may have read the mods and copy/pasted it into his home brew.

Thanks, and I agree about c&ping stuff from the movies. After all, how many of us did that for TS anyway? :D

As I think I might've said in the podcast (been at NTRPGC since then) it seems like the Doctor Who RPG again. That is, someone gets to play the Doctor/00X and the rest "get" to play the entourage.

In sum, some nifty mechanics but on the hole not my cup of tea. That is, unless I'm running a game with only 1-2 players. In which case 007 might be ideal. Hard to do with TS, that's for sure. :)
