Is Jousting the Next Extreme Sport?

Post by dachda »

Wow, check this article on Jousting as a sport on the NY Times website:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/11/magaz ... ml?_r=1&hp

be sure to check the video on the last page of the story.

Anyone up for this sport??

Holy @*#&$! Those guys are mental! Hope nothing serious happens...though it is more than likely possible.

Not extreme enough for me, thanks. There is no Sumo or sky diving involved.

I think HedgeKnight said it best.

That's cool, but like, woah. what a nutty thing to actually, you know, DO.

Pretty cool, though.

I'd lvoe to see it in the olympics.

That is awesome. This is a sport I'd watch on ESPN The Ocho.

As one that hates sports on TV...sadly, I'd have to say I'd likely be watching this as well...

"Extreme"? Yes, extremely stupid.

Heh, hey I love medieval history and sports . . and have been talking to Paul Stormberg about running jousting tournaments using the Chainmail rules at the next GaryCON.

BUT, ~ broken bones, severed penises and badly bruised hearts among other injuries seems dumb and as the article mentioned unnecessary dangerous.

If this flies, what next - chariot races?

CHARIOT RACES would be amazing!!! And I'm not talking about these dumb modern horse track races with a jockey riding in a small cart either. Flat out CHARIOT RACES, Roman style.

Jousting is the official sport of the commonwealth of Virginia. The National Jousting Hall of Fame is there, and the National Jousting Championships are held there.
