Monsters & Treasures PDF

Post by Aladar »

Has anyone bought the C&C Monsters & Treasures (2nd printing) PDF yet? If so, is it the corrected copy, i.e. does it have the stats for the Vampire Spawn in it, etc.?

I have it. I looked for the Vampire Spawn since you mentioned it and I didn't find any stats for it.

Just double checked. It is mentioned that a Vampire will be accompanied by up to 6 Vampire Spawn, but no stats that I can find.

Well, if it irks you, believe me it irks me more... my name is adorning that document, and I want it to be as near perfect as it can get!

I think the version that has the spawn in it is the "personalized" print, but I dunno if that was a pdf or not. Also, 3rd print M&T (when it happens.)

The Personalized Edition is the only version of the M&T that contains the statistics for Vampire Spawn at this point. This version has never seen the .pdf treatment at this point.

I'm not sure what's the 'personalized edition', is it the white cover books? My regular M&T book does contain the spawn stats, inline in the create spawn description.

"Personalized edition" is the leather-like cover. It looks swanky.

It's the brown leatherette books.

All: I've alerted Steve to the pdf problem. He'll take care of it as soon as he can. But the vampire spawn stats are in the 2nd printing book. I'm looking right at em.

Okay,

Before I switch any files out. Those of you who have the 2nd printing PDF, have a gander at page 82, first column, toward the bottom. It says Create Spawn. In that block are the stats for the Vampire Spawn. It is an expanded paragraph from the 1st printing.

That is the addition made to the 2nd printing MT.

I just opened the copy of the MT i uploaded as the 2nd printing, or thought I did. Its in my pdf. But its not beyond the possibility that I uploaded a bad version.

Let me know please.

Steve

I have both the pdf and the book. In the pdf I have, on page 82, 1st column towards the bottom, in the Create Spawn paragraph, it mentions :
Quote:
An affected human loses all abilities, and gains the statistics of a vampire spawn (see below).

No stats are given 'below'. In the book I have that paragraph is different and the stats are given in the 'Create Spawn' paragraph.

BTW I'm not sure where I can check if it's the '2nd printing pdf'. I bought it about a month ago.

Hello,

You can check by looking on page 128. The OGL is there. The very last sentence in the 2nd column should say M&T 2nd Printing.

The one with "(see below)" is indeed the 1st printing (I have both).

The 2nd printing immediately gives 4 HD instead of 8, movement of 30', physical saves, special abilities: Blood Drain, Energy Drain, Regeneration 1, Electrical Resistance (half) - spawn becomes a full vampire with normal stats if the controlling vampire is destroyed.

Sorry for the slight thread-jack but is there any way that those of us who bought the 1st print pdf version can get the 2nd print pdf version without paying full price again?

I found the Spawn stats where Steve said they were.

They did not show up on the Adobe Reader "Find" function.

Sorry for that. I just bought mine and it is the 2nd Edition, so the file you have up is the correct one.

Sorry I relied on technology and any confusion caused.

moriarty777, based on the above and my own experience, the answer to your question is, no. I purchased the 1st printing of the M&T on pdf recently and that's the file I get if I DL it again. So (intentional or not) the 2nd printing of the M&T is not an upgrade, it's a new product (as far as the pdf is concerned on prgnow). So I'll be buying it a second time...but it is $5 off at the moment.

Ya... as you may remember from the other older thread), I posted about that. It's slightly irksome. It's like owning a print copy of 3rd printing PHB and a 1st printing M&T sitting side by side on the shelf -- they just clash!
The way I see it though is I had to ask the question. In my mind, there is no reason why I should pay for again for a PDF product I already own. I mean, this isn't a new edition -- it's a new printing. Errata were fixed and aside from the Poison Table change, no new content (unless you consider Vampire Spawn as new content )added. A physical product? Sure, I'll gladly pay for new printings that 'improve' over older ones... up to a point of course. In my mind the present M&T is pretty good... there are more significant issues that are still around with the 3rd print PHB to commit me to buy the 4th print when it should come around.

If the Trolls want to keep it as a separate product, then that's fine but ask yourself this: You bought/paid for Vista (or other incarnation) or other incarnation of Windows and paid up to a couple hundred for it. Should you be expected to pay that amount again in order to benefit from the last bug fixes and patches?

I should point out that, I'm not trying to give Steve or any of the other Trolls any grief here -- at this point it's more of an intellectual exercise than anything else else. In the end, I'd rather have *any* copy of the electronic copy rather than not.

Oh, I don't think it should be a "new product" but should, instead, be an upgrade as is most often the case with pdf products. So I'm with you there.

Having said that, I can see both sides and, more to the point, I'd be willing to bet it's a mistake and not something TLG did on purpose anyway.

ROFL, if it was TLG doing it, it was probably not done on purpose!!!

Well I guess I will have to purchase the PDF copy. That will give me three. The hard copy 2nd printing, the leatherette version, and now the PDF.

Only 3?

I'm down to 3 myself but I did own 4 copies at one point. I gave a copy as well as one of my 5 copies of the PHB to a friend. Of course, you could always count your leatherette version as two copies (value-wise)

I guess I could count it as two. But I got it on sale.

Actually I got the leatherette M&T during the Christmas sale last year, along with the leatherette PHB, plus Yggsburgh, character sheets, and a CK Screen, for some ridiculously low price I can't remember. All in all, a very good investment.

Well, I think I finally figured out why my supposedly 2nd Printing of M&T did not match up with the Leatherette or PDF versions (i.e. was missing some stats, such as on the vampire spawn).

My FLGS sold me a copy of the 1st print apparently and told me it was the 2nd printing. I should have looked closer, copyright was 2005, not 2007. Plus my hard cover M&T has a green shaded cover, versus the golden one that is in my PDF copy.

I just noticed that the dwarf on the lower right of the 2nd printing cover is holding a flagon/mug with a sprite instead of an axe as is shown on the 1st Print cover. Cool.

Sorry if I confused the heck out of anyone.

I am on the posts awaiting the flogging.
I can only say in my defense that I was ignorant of the copyright or differing covers, having nothing to compare them to. At least my PHB was current (3rd Printing). Personally, I blame the FLGS who sold it to me. But I am willing to accept punishment.
But since I have been using the leatherette version anyway for gaming, at least my players won't be burning me at the stake for using outdated material.
