Favorite fantasy hero- or anti hero!!!

Post by slimykuotoan »

From fiction or any source...

Mine would be: Conan (surprise), the horned king (from Lloyd Alexander's Book of Three), Raistlin, Ariakus (Dragonlance), and Red Sonya.

Hawk and Fisher from Simon R Green's series of the same name. A kick ass pair of town guards from a corrupt city called Haven.

Man, tough, tough question. I admit I'm not as well read as most of the posters on this board, but Raistlen is a kick ass anti hero, as well as Conan being totally badass.

I really get into the Uldyssian character from the Sin War series, and Felix from the Gotrek & Felix series is awesome too.

SoulCatcher (who'd have guessed), Croaker, Goblin, and One Eye from The Black Compnay.

Conan (book, not movie version), Severus Snape (such a waste of good character potential), Zed (from the Goodkind books).

More than I can think of ATM actually.

#2: Conan as written by Robert E. Howard, and perhaps a few of the early "posthumous collaborators" (such as L. Sprague de Camp or Lin Carter); but NOT as written by any of the more modern ripoffs that pretend to be Conan.

I would rank Conan as #1, except there's one other hero I like better
#1: Solomon Kane as also written by Robert E. Howard. There's just something inherently likable about a hero who thinks he's on a mission from God to destroy all Evil. It lends an air of dignity to the slaughter.

I should note, that I do enjoy the Howard stories, I have most of them at this point, but the ones I enjoy the most are Kull and Bran Mac Morn.

Raistlin will always be a favorite.

I'm kinda liking Porthios in the Elven Exiles trilogy, his obsessively driven nature is quickly moving him up as a favorite for me.

Oesc from the Hallowed Isle series by Diana Paxson.

Now I've learned two lessons.

The first I learned after typing up my favorite fantasy characters and I wanted to erase some comment and hit backspace twice in rapid succession. That was the keyboard shortcut for the browser's "back" function.

After typing a second time, I reached for my mouse and accidentally hit one of the extra buttons on the side where your thumb goes. Guess what? That's the mouse shortcut for the browser's "back" function.

Conan

Brinn

Spock

Covenant

Jon Snow

some others I can't remember anymore

Aragorn/Strider will always be my favourite.

Faramir was another from the books, but I didn't like him as much in the movies, and I didn't like Boromir in the books, but I liked him in the movies.

Paul "Muad'dib" Atreides - he understood the dynamics of dealing with desert people and getting them on your side years before anyone in the real world even knew that they should prioritize such policies. He had the power to rule over the entire universe but instead chose to live a simple life of peace. Last but not least, he was able to grasp the strange secret arts of women and subvert them - now that shows that he was something special.
