They come out of my bag and I have to arrange them in their sets.

I;ve got a good set of stat rollers, and have had them now for over 10 years. It took me a while, but i found them... and I USE THEM!

I used to pull my dice out, set them in collections by type, and have them sit with the highest value possible. Now, however, I just pour them out, and pick the ones I like, and don't touch them unless I'm rolling one.

The Mighty Sponge

Post by Bytor, Knight of Darkness »

My best friend Butch (whose name is Joe) had a nickname when he was younger. He was called Sponge because of his really curly hair. Actually, the full nickname was "The Mystic Spongehead" but that's wasn't much of a nickname because it was too long.

Anyway, while I was DMing it was tradition for the players to rub their dice on "The Sponge" for good luck.

Eventually a whole mythology came out of Butch's hair including how to recharge it.

It was one of the odder dice traditions I've seen. Then again, whenever I was a player I've done it too.

I really don't have a superstition when it comes to dice, I usually just pick up some out of the box and roll them. (If my rolls are bad I may switch for other dice after a while, but thats about it.)

For a while in the 80's our group had a superstition that the dice liked to be cold. So we would keep them in the freezer till game day......

I'm a set rotator. If the dice are being particularly unlucky, I'll switch them out for another.

Also, I always roll them on a hardback gaming book. The clatter is better, and therefore luckier

I used to lay out my dice by type (d20, d10 etc) with the lowest number up, I didn't want to use up the charges of the high numbers. I'm not AS anal now. I will let others use my dice, but I pick them out and hand them to them. I always roll inside a old check box from the bank, it seems to help me roll higher.

ho boy, for a rationalist I can be pretty superstitious.

I like to test out a variety of dice before the session to get a feel for which dice seem lucky on THAT evening. I know in advance (or think I do) that some are unlikely to be THE ONES, but I've gotta try 'em anyway. Once I've found the lucky ones pre-game, I tend to stick with them for the entire session .... at least until multiple fumbles, in which case I'll roll a bunch in between combats to find the 'new' lucky ones.

But I'm not superstitious .... really, I'm not ....

I tend to roll stats using traditional "pip" dice instead of numbered ones.... the logic being that the pips "dig" more of the die surface out than for numbered dice (ie: the 6 pips take out more material from the die than the 1 pip, as compared to the number 6 and the number 1), so physically, the die is more likely to come up with a higher number since the lower number sides are heavier.

The "skew" in the probabilities is probably fairly miniscule, if it exists at all, but I'll take the chance.

I do the same, for the same reasons.

I have 3 of the ones mentioned in the poll.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Hehe, I don't have any superstitions, but after my nephew showed up one time with loaded dice, I don't allow players to use their dice unless I test them! 13

I take 4 sets of dice and test them before playing, best set to roll with I use.

Also as I buy new dice I do the same as above and remove the lowest rollers.

Nothing to weird.
