Introduction to Wandcraft

Post by Bruce Heard »

Hi all. I've posted a series of articles fleshing out wands. They feature devices enabling spellcasters to deflect attacks and disarm opponents. The articles go into great detail about the nature of wands, how they relate to their owners (somewhat like intelligent swords but with greater insight), and what their natural and magic components are. This is intended for AD&D 1e & 2e, as well as D&D B/X & BECMI. Hope you enjoy the ride. I'll post a wand maker character class next week.

Someone is an H.P. fan. *smirk* Well done and quite an interesting take. I can see several ways this could enhance play...as well as bog it down a bit. Still, I think the pluses likely outweigh the minuses and could put a definitely more quantitative spin on magical duels.

So, is this intro not intended for C&C . . or did you not realize where you posted?

Of course, all of us here know that we can adapt anything for our game.

Just sayin'

I think it's just out as idea fodder for those interested Tadhg. The first part is a good fluff bit that can easily be rolled into C&C. The mechanics of the next three sections are a bit cumbersome and unnecessary but can be NPC/idea fodder IMO and certainly created with the OP's campaign world in mind. :D

Uhh, ok.

Perhaps this thread should be moved to "Other Games", then. :|

I dunno. I think it does bring up the subject of wizard duels and a good option in how to handle them; certainly in a bit more elaborate and, for me at least, in a bit more understandable way than what I've seen covered in C&C and elsewhere. While written with AD&D in mind, the subject matter does cross over for discussion well. It's certainly not as blatant as the 5e discussions/topics in the C&C rules section. *chuckle*

I went back and checked the description of the folder: it refers to roleplaying games (plural). There's nothing that says it's specifically about C&C alone. Anyway, I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. Thanks for the praise posted earlier. That's always appreciated. I'm now posting about a follow-up article that you can cannibalize for C&C without (hopefully) too much trouble. So, here it goes:

The new wand maker character class for D&D BECMI and AD&D 1e and 2e is now available. It dovetails exactly with the ongoing series of articles on wandcraft. This material is free to the gaming community, however, feedback (pros and cons) is always appreciated in return. Thanks!

The XP chart and all special abilities are now available for the wand maker character class. It has a gnarly new ability enabling wand magic to be detected after it's been cast, and tracked just like a ranger following a trail. Only two more articles after this.
