Dice, bags and boxes

Post by Rhuvein »

Yeah, I think we've had some dice threads in the past but I thought I'd start another one for those who might be interested in showing us yer stuff.

I started another online game about 2 months ago and pulled out all my dice, including my shiny new but unused Castles & Crusades dice.

Love the d4 and the d10.

Up top are nice red dice, but I can't remember if they came in my Ravenloft box or my Tainted Lands box.

The grey dice are from the Lejendary Adventures box.

In the middle top are real cool speckled dice from the D&D Adventure box from '99 or '00.

Bad pic on my part as these dice look much nicer than the picture.

The middle lower bag actually says Dungeons & Dragons on it, but it's in dark red.

Oh, the blue box top is not a dice box per se, but just the top of a Christmas storage box.

Since I started fishing before I started gaming, I've used Crown Royal bags for my reels. That's a Browning ultra light w/4 lb line configured for lefties.

A small selection, but a surprisingly nice shot of some of my Gamescience Precision Dice (purchased for me to help break a curse of miserable rolls):

That was the first dice bag I ever owned. A friend's father gave him one and a while later gave me one. It wasn't until later I found out it was because he was drinking what came in the bag.

The dice in the C&C Black Box are kick ass, too! I'll try to take a pic and post up.

I just recently went back to using a Crown Royal bag for my dice. But mine is a heavy fuax leather material, white with black lettering, and frilly tassels on the string. It was from a special blend promotional Crown Royal box that my buddy got for his restaurant.

I like the CR bag! My boy is getting a new set of dice and a dice bag in his stocking this year. I'm excited to see his reaction.

And remember you can get a custom embroidered bag from Crown Royal on their website. 9.95 for the 750mL, 11.95 for the 1.5L. You get two lines of text in Arial, Brush Script MT, or Bookman Old Style, any color of bags. I made some for our FR campaign with the party name and the FR dates on it. And if you are a teetotaller and have a lot of dice, you can always find people selling them by the dozen on ebay.

Lately, IE the last couple of years, I've just been using the bags I picked up at NTRPGCon. For the dice I don't use on a regular basis, I just keep in jars and 1 gallon zip lock bags.

My newest daily drivers, these are a tribute to the original D&D dice, which were a 0-9 twice d20 in white, pinkish-red d6, blue d12, green d8 and yellow d4. These are GameScience though and don't dent as easily. I have GameScience 0-9 twice d20s, but these are enlightened times so this set keeps the newer d20 and adds percentile, in Wisteria, so as to differentiate from the others. Also 4 d6 instead of 1, just because.

Nice Aergraith.

Is that d4 tip flat? If so, how does it roll?

I forgot about my BD&D dice. Gotta get my scanner working again to post pics.

It doesn't roll, but really, d4s don't roll in any case. You are supposed to hold them by the the apex, between 3 fingers, and toss them straight up. The tips are shorn off because game science dice are very sharp and I guess people stepped on one too many.

Zocchi will say that his dice are better because they stop rolling faster, giving them less chance to find the "best" side. On the other hand, those really sharp craps dice are only really fair if they bounce off the back of the box, so maybe you are supposed to have one of those with gamescience dice too.

I hold the d4 in my palm and sort of pull it out from under the die giving it some spin. Otherwise, since it does stop rolling so quickly, it's pretty easy to get it to come up any way you want.

I should've gotten the C&C dice in all colors. Purple, green, and a few others. A friend of mine sold me he's unused set of purple, and I have the pearl?-colored ones. Also have the set from the black box. I almost forgot, I have the green Troll Lord Games company dice. I used to get a few shipments of various colors for my convention sales, but they always sold very well. I'll have to ask the Trolls what their plans are for the full range of dice.

Do the Trolls sell dice? I haven't seen any on the website. I'm still using the set from my purple box Basic set circa 1980, but the d8 and d20 have gone missing...

I just got a set of white game science dice with blue ink. I wanted the ones called beginners ugly dice but they were sold out. I've been trying to post a pic of them but I cant figure out how to resize the pic below 256 KB on my ipad. The smallest I can get to is 350ish. Who came up with 256 KB maximum anyway? That is so stupid.

Right. I just remembered that I saw Crown Royal apple flavored whiskey at the local liquor store. I've got to check that and see if the bag is green!!!

I'll go tomorrow!

Incidentally, I was rolling some dice the other night and noticed the d4 from the Black Box is rendered differently than other d4s. It's very cool.

I'll have to post a pic.

Time to charge my cam batteries.
