Re: Well, it happened again, gents
Gamers are a different breed of cat, that's for sure. I put out a call not long ago to find a game group. Had a 4e guy and a couple 3.5'ers and I told them that I was in no matter what the system. (I'm not proud....I've had fun w every version of DnD and am happy to play whatever.) But...if I was DM...

Re: Help me tinker
Well, you could just tell everyone "ok, everyone gets 3 primes and no other racial bonuses....and if you want pointy ears and wish to call yourself an elf, have at it" problem solved.
I actually did that one time back in the 2e days. (removed racial bonuses) No one liked it.

Re: Help me tinker
I've not been involved with DnD Nxt, but that "roll 2 d20" thing for primes sounds interesting - more elegant than the 12/18 or +6 thing for primes. I wonder how the success/failure thing works out. Might need to bring the target number down a little....maybe 16? I'm not a mathmetician, bu...

Re: Spellcaster House Rules?
Interesting. Looks like the two extremes are well represented here! :) I like what you've done Treebore, but my guys are first timers...that all would be too much for them. Although I like the Arcane/Divine blast idea. I had considered something like that for Wizards (IMO Clerics don't need much hel...

Spellcaster House Rules?
Hi guys. Just curious how many guys are playing with tweaks to their spellcasting system. I've been out of practice, but remembering back in the day, I was never really satisfied with the spell system. Fire and forget didn't make much sense, and if you memorized the wrong spells you were out of luck...

That last part sounds neat. Hope they have the rest of the info coming out soon. This game still needs a big jumpstart up here in Canada.

Re: Movement & figures
Used to do it that way back in the day. Still do actually, only because I find square counting to be a real game-slower-downer. I know the 3e guys didn't invent using a 1 inch grid, but I think it was 3e that made it fashionable and commonplace. The way you're doing it is the way wargamers have been...

Mining - can anyone point me towards....
...A book that can give me an overview on mining settlements? I've been gleefully ripping thru my Wilderlands stuff and have come across so many entries that list some sort of mining as a primary resource. But I'm at a loss as to what the features would be for a town or settlement based on mining. I...

Great to hear they enjoyed! And hey, this thread made me aware of the Beacon at Enan Tor too. Might run the kids thru that now. I rather like it.
And I figured out a way to dovetail it with Wizard's Amulet, then Crucible.
Anyway...good work!

Re: JG City State Kick Starter up
Yeah I'm not too excited about this one. I re-bought the pdf of the Necro box set after stupid stupid stupidly selling my hard copy in my RPG purge. There's still more material in that set that I could ever hope to use. And its funny. Beautiful color maps are awesome usually, but part of the Wilderl...

Re: Maybe some new blood...
Dark Journey is ok, but for beginners I might argue that the dungeon is too big. YMMV and all that.
Plus you'll need to consider a way to keep it from screeching to a halt when, or if, the players can't solve certain riddles. Just sayin'

Crucible has a lot of extraneous encounters. If you just keep it to the Crucible, Eralion's Keep and the Orcs, its a pretty simple little adventure.

Re: Hey buddy, can you spare an Apocalypse?
The danger is that many of these stories have been told many times over to the point of cliche'. heh...I don't have to worry about that. This campaign is for my 14 yr old daughter, a couple of her friends, and my wife. "A dark stranger approaches you in the tavern and tells you of a mysterious...

Hey buddy, can you spare an Apocalypse?
I've reached an imagination roadblock and wonder if anyone can give me a hand. I have a post apocalyptic kind of campaign setting brewing up for my new group, but am having a hard time coming up with a satisfying and D&Dish nature for said apocalypse. I need it to be the sort of thing that left ...

Re: Entangle Spell
Yeah I'd consider it a possible new spell. As far as using Entangle that way, its a stretch. Nothing wrong with it if everyone's having fun, but I'd tell the player "Ok it works this time, but subject to review later" Later, run it under the magnifying glass for potential abuse, then decid...

Re: GM Sale ongoing
You posted above that you got two of them printed out. Engineering Dungeons as well as the Castle one. I consider the Arms and Armor booklet to be the third in that series, even though I guess I shouldn't since its a different author and it doesn't even have Engineer in the title. Ah ok I got you. ...

Re: GM Sale ongoing
I don't mind pdfs for the little stuff like modules and whatnot. Buy them for a couple of bucks then have em printed at Staples. Still pretty reasonable. I did the Dungeon Engineering, Castle Engineering, and Dark Journey and it still cost me less than 20 bucks to have them on paper and in my DM bin...

You could also look at it as a distraction. Like maybe gobbs that fail a save have been set on fire, and are at a minus to hit for x number of rounds, because they're tempering their desire to kill the adventurers with the fact that theyre currently on fire.

Its all good. Actually no one ever accused me of RPing wrong...but I did get accused by one of my players, and my best friend, of being a douchebag DM. And he was right. I can still remember him, after being told for the umpteenth time that he had assumed wrong regarding my setting, and that "e...

Role playing, in a game: I come to a path with a fork, and I get to choose left or right. I'm playing a role. Are you playing a path or a fork? That was funny though. DM: Youre travelling along the path and you come to a fork. Dwarf: I pick up the fork, stab the elf with it, and say "tak...

Re: Humans in Funny Suits
To continue the friendly banter: Seriously though, if I as a GM bust out D6 star wars it would be completely inappropriate for a PC to break out a level 5 elf ranger for the campaign. Likewise, if I as a DM bust out DnD the PC's should not grab their Jedi who has a Dex of 4d, a Str of 4D, Mech and ...
