Re: Level advancement

Bumped. Was in Keeper Advice, but seems like it could benefit from community responses. For my part, your progression seems about right. It takes about 3-4 sessions for a level. If that seems slow to you, speed it up. Add 10% on the top of what you already award, adjust to taste. It also depends on ...

Re: Rarities Valuation

Fiff, my Spartan 300 box is signed and numbered (#45). The Trolls should be able to answer this definitively, but from what I recall the entire run of the Spartan 300 was signed and numbered. The designer's copies I believe had their own numbering scheme. The white boxes themselves were a limited r...

I haven't even read that section of the CKG. On the great planar wheel of gaming, my game alignment is directly opposite of the one that thinks such things are needed, so I leave it in the CKG for others to enjoy if they wish.

Embed the fonts. It means that the machine printing it won't need to have the fonts installed on it, if they are unusual.

Re: Class Abilities and the Prime Attribute

Sure, it was actually fun trying to remember all of that. One other thing - as the PHB draft was in production, the Trolls *really really really* wanted there to be 2 classes per attribute. In other words, each attribute has two classes that use that attribute as the mandatory prime. Str: Fighter, R...

For all, I just posted a "C&C Origins" type post in the aforementioned thread regarding Primes and their usage. It is my best recollection of how everything fell into place. Granted, it was 10 years ago, but I think I got the order right.

Re: Class Abilities and the Prime Attribute

I'm going to trip down memory lane, knee deep in a vat of grog (nard). This is from when C&C was a single-celled organism, basically. Originally, class abilities weren't terribly different from 1E AD&D, in the first playtest rulesets. The only impact that an attribute would have on class abilities i...

Anyone play The Secret World?

It has its quirks, but I'm finding I'm enjoying this more than any MMO since Guild Wars 1. With a few exceptions, it is very solo-able.

If anyone here dabbles, let me know and I'll give you my character info. I have an Illuminati and a Templar so far.

Re: Hey buddy, can you spare an Apocalypse?

If you aren't looking at a global apocalypse, you have a larger number of options. Plausible global scenarios are harder to pull off. If it is big enough to affect an entire globe and kill off 90% of the population, then you have some work to do to explain why 10% survived. The danger is that many o...

Re: Entangle Spell

It is creative, but I wouldn't allow it. First, how do the plants hold PCs and horses above the water? Second, when the PCs/horses make their saves to break free, why aren't they falling straight into the water? Third, I'm all about creative usage of spells, but this is really a new spell called "pl...

I have 4 sets of the C&C minis, I think. I have 2 of the numbered Spartan 300, and Upper Works. Davis gave me a copy of Necropolis back in 2005. I have Hall of Many Panes, but not sure that's rare, per se. I have a copy of Mordenkainen's Castle signed by Gary and Rob, and a number of other things th...

Re: 1 Book to Rule them ALL

It would have to be the AD&D 1E Monster Manual for me. But I could be contrary and say that I enjoy *reading * MMII much more. And FF has its charm. I vacillate between liking the 2E Compendium format and loathing it. I don't think I used it enough to really appreciate how annoying a binder is when ...

Re: Detect Traps

FWIW, YMMV and all that, but the 1E AD&D Find Traps spell specifically says the cleric can see the trap. Granted, that's not C&C, but that's where I pull my framework - the traps glow much the same way magic items glow when using Detect Magic. The DMG actually mentions that for magical traps, the Cl...

Put yourself in the player's position. You have the presence of mind to prepare a Detect Traps spell, and cast it in a suspicious location, only to walk down the corridor and be informed that you couldn't detect the *triggers*, only the dart holes/scything blade/falling rocks. Your party takes damag...

Too many D&Ds? Yep. But for me, it's too many *games.*

I'd dearly love to play some Star Frontiers, Heroes Unlimited, Call of Cthulhu, etc. etc. etc.

1 game every 4 to 6 weeks? It's C&C. That's just how it is.

Re: Humans in Funny Suits

My homebrew rips all but two demihumans out: Half-elves are very rare and will get some very strange looks, unless they favor the human lineage. Half-orcs are not quite as rare, as the area is a frontier with a lot of orc activity. However, not many kidnapped mothers make it back to civilization to ...

Wow, a much more measured set of replies than I would have written.

Taking things for granted is one of the worst insults a player can have toward a GM.

I've followed this thread, but didn't comment. I've held that with leveling, I require the PC to go to trainer, spend a week per level training and spending their hard earned loot in training costs. I've had a couple of players level in the midst of dungeon and decided on the following format: 1. P...
