Yes, you wanted everyone to have to say "Der Fiffer!" We know. We were there. In Grenada. With a spoon.

Yeah. I'm not jackbooted enough to make that sort of thing stick, fortunately. :)

Re: Old Threads

I miss the theory threads. I tried to find some of them, especially the ones where we argued about 12/18 vs Target 20, and the thread containing the "ah ha!" moment where everyone understood how Primes would really affect the game. I couldn't find them. This saddens me. If I only thought about savin...

Re: Why C&C Should Be Your Go-To D&D

My big reasons for being an evangelist and contributor, back in the day: The rules that made it into C&C aren't arbitrary, and they work together. Everything else was left out so you could do it your way, and not be forced into the playing style of the person(s) writing the game. Broad compatibility...

Re: Star SIEGE and Tainted Lands boxed sets are sold out...

My feeling on Star Siege is that the toolbox is great, but the game needs more than a toolbox. A default setting would go a long way. Not even in the same package, necessarily. Spitballing - take a given SciFi universe and Star Siege it. Then you have something that not only demonstrates you can do ...

Re: "Old School" finds...

One of my fav's was a copy of Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue for $1. Grabbed original G1/G2 printings as well.

It's harder to find the stuff in traditional bookstores anymore. Amazon Marketplace is great, but the prices are inflated compared to the really nice surprise finds.

Awesome. It's nice when you find someplace that buys the used stuff.

Buddy of mine scored a Moldvay boxed set for $2 at a yard sale last week. Pretty good shape, too.

Re: Classic Monsters and Of Gods and Monsters...

Classic Monsters is fantastic. And I am a die-hard devotee of the FF and MM2. I was shocked, quite frankly, that some of the creatures chosen made it in there - and I was very happy about it. Of Gods and Monsters is worth the price just to see how Jim Ward's thinking has evolved since Deities and De...

So far, they are all thinking they are in WAYYYYY over their heads. And they'd be right. But it's nothing they can't handle if they really apply themselves. :)

Re: What am I doing wrong?

Balance is important, but congruity is also. Does that hill need a hill giant? Then give it a hill giant, and let the chips fall where they may. Warning: putting a black dragon in every swamp, a blue dragon in every desert, a frost giant on every glacier, and a beholder in every dungeon will get you...

Re: What's a good monster to get my PCs running away?

My current campaign has all kinds of variants on the zombie theme, but none of them are 1) actual zombies or 2) behave precisely like zombies. Some have spider climb abilities. Some spew corruption from their mouths. Some emit fog. Some have no internal organs, but continue to function and look like...

My players are going through this now. It was never playtested, so I never submitted it.

Go resurrect an old thread. There's some really great stuff in there.

I killed some time today reading through the C&C Module threads. I will resurrect one of my own from 8 years ago. :)

Eeeeeenteresting.

I happen to have some content laying around. A lot of it.

It also happens to be content that was, at one point, up for publication and it withered on the vine. So I will check with Steve. :)

I also have one Crusader article that I'm not sure was ever printed.

Re: I might just leave RPGs behind, or my tale of burnout

Understood about the bad-player-factor.

I tend to drive those types from my game, not the other way around. I have a pretty high tolerance for shenanigans, but sheer assholery gets my back up, and I usually end up having an NPC take care of the problem for me.
