Re: The C&C rule(s) you dislike or ignore...

Right. Raising chance of success by 1/2 to 1/3 over normal IS significant. Which is why people want +1 weapons. The 1/2 to 1/3 over normal values you cite are entirely based on what you choose as the difficulty. Thus, you're not really measuring the power of the +1 itself, but the difficulty involv...

So the +1 doesn't do much in an absolute sense of increasing your odds. The vast majority of the time, you will still fail. Statistically, that +1 will get you only one extra success every 20 attempts. So? It has always been that way in D&D. I never said it wasn't. You had said a +1 was signifi...

Re: The C&C rule(s) you dislike or ignore...

Missed this earlier... i like math. Actually, if your character has to roll an 18, 19 or 20 to succeed and you add a +1 due to attribute bonus you increase your likely hood of success by 33%. THAT is significant. Especially over many rolls. The math is so simple I'm surprised you missed that fact. N...

I could almost go with that. I found it added a layer of complication I didn't like but that may have been WOTC over complicating everything about D20... Yeah, and i understand why the Trolls didn't go with scores. But i thought a good compromise would be to specify the primes for each attribute. F...

Agreed.

Here's one: I like that 3E had was stats for monsters. So i wish C&C had at least given specific primes for monsters (not just P/M).

C&C has taken a wholly unique approach to illusionary magic in making the illusion real I think this is my biggest beef with how C&C does it. An illusion, by definition, is not real. An illusion is... from dictionary.com: something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression...

Why would you have? In 2e they cast spells that weren't just illusions... ;)
Ah, but as illustrated in my examples, my point was that illusionary magic is not weak or underpowered. :)

Fizz, Midnight. You know I got the setting and some of the extension books, and it did look VERY interesting, but I never was able to play or run it. I have several house rules, but for outright ignoring: definitely illustionist healing. That said, i usually play in Birthright, which doesn't have illusionists anyways (it has magicians instead).

I've definitely wanted to run a game set in Lankhmar and the old Birthright setting has always held a strange appeal for me. I've got a copy of it, but the timing never seems right. The players, at the end of a long week, are not really ready for political intrigue so much as 'Smash bad guy! Take T...

I can't think of any settings that are explictely no-magic. There are several that are low or rare magic (such as Birthright , where magic exists but is certainly special, and often not accepted). But there are a number of books that offer historical games as an option. The AD&D 2nd Ed Historica...

I would have liked to try some gritty city settings such as Thieves' World or Lankhmar. I have played a small amount of Freeport (Green Ronin did a nice C&C conversion of it), but i could use some more. I never played Kalamar either, which had some possibilities.

Wow... quite the thread necro... 14 years. I've never like class-based damage for weapons, myself. Welcome to the forums! How much experience you choose depends on how fast you want the characters to advance. But a 10x difference seems extreme; makes me wonder if there is a typo. Re: Is there some advantage attacking in your underwear?

Here's an idea, what if there was an AC bonus that increased with level, but if a character wore armor it would suppliment that bonus. The bonus would range from +1 to +3 at first level and then increase by +1 every 2/3/4 levels 9depending on class). You could also allow classes that have more trai...

Agree on both points. I've always kicked around the idea of making armor damage reduction instead of protection. But it looks to be tooooo big a change to the fundamental setup of the rules and how attacks AC & HP work together. With that, if I ever did armor reduces damage, I'd say that a crit...

That's what critical hits are for. :) And things like sneak attack could be justified as bypassing armor (getting between the gaps, etc).
