Re: Class abilities as prime checks?

I see what you're saying, but can't you have the same differences in primes without it affecting your basic thief abilities? STASH and BASH could both be proficient thieves and still have their primes go into different attributes, their saves and non-thief checks would be different, but as thieves ...

Re: Class abilities as prime checks?

Agreed, but I also think that if your a thief, your a thief, and good at everything that a thief is known for doing. Same goes for every skill heavy class. Which obviously isn't all of them. But isn't that like saying a wizard should be good (know) every spell? They can't- they have to pick and cho...

So I can quickly look at chances of success for a variety of methods. OK, that's what i thought. Wanted to be sure i didn't miss anything. :) Thanks for the ideas. I'll crunch more numbers and see what works for me. When i tinker with systems, i have found that it's always best to check the two ext...

Re: Hacking the SIEGE engine to limit CC to 20

In trying to come up with numbers that work for me, I made this table. Thought it might be of interest. So what is the purpose of the table, exactly? I think the way to figure out if it's right for you is to consider the extremes. Consider a 12th level character facing a CC of 20. Then compare the ...

Maybe. And if you already use Advantages, then they can become the equivalent of 3E feats- some classes just get more.

Re: Hacking the SIEGE engine to limit CC to 20

While i myself am not a fan of all-primes for class abilities, i know others are. Apparently it hasn't broken their game, so likely no worries there. :) The prime difference i always thought was the result of math- it is 1 standard deviation of a d20 roll. (Of course, the Trolls just liked it as C&C...

Re: CKG's Mana and Spellcasting Option

As for me, the Midnight version sounds fine! I fear, however, that my players would string me up. They most certainly wouldn't play Wizards, being somewhat munchkiny... and I want them to, or else I'm doomed to play the same campaign (Warrior and Rogue) for the rest of my life. Yes, i like it. Re: Forty foot cube or fourty cubic feet big difference.

A cube 40' on a side would be 64,000 cubic feet. I agree, but that wasn't my point. I was noting that even if you read it as 40 cubic feet total, regardless of shape, you could still have some illusions with some hefty dimensions by sacrificing one or both of the other dimensions. So is the intent ...

Re: Forty foot cube or fourty cubic feet big difference.

There is another matter to consider here- is the allowed volume shape allowed to be changed? If the size of the spell is meant to be 40 feet on a side. Then it suggests that your illusion can never have any single dimension of greater than 40 feet. But if the spell means that your illusion can only ...

I have tried the CKG's version. While i am a fan of the principle, i am not of the numbers used. I find the number-keeping a bit too clunky. A related version that i like is the one used in the Midnight campaign setting. There, an arcance caster had an amount of energy equal to their level plus modi...

Re: Cleric v Druid, Wizard v Illusionist

I think which is considered most powerful is dependent on context. A standup non-magical slug-fest, i'd bet on the cleric. But if they can bring a bit of their special powers, i'd bet on the druid (shapeshifting is potent stuff). But if you can start the fight from a distance with full spells, i'd b...

I have been thinking about this, in particular to what i said earlier about damage and strength modifiers. You can either put all your might into one attack with the second being an afterthought. Or you can split your strength into the two weapoons (for example lunging simultaneously at your foe). Y...

I think i do it by the book (though don't have it in front of me). If the target is unaware of the attack, sneak attack applies. So a thief could be hidden in a bush directly in front of the thief, and an arrow comes flying out and hits him in the face: sneak attack. I agree with those that think 3E...

Yeah, but that makes no sense to me. Thats like saying your primary arm has an 18 Str, but your secondary arm is only 9 Str. I supposed one could argue that the intial attack is made normally- getting the full power of ones body behind the blow, and then making the second attack as an afterthought,...
