Re: Attribute Rolling

It is ALL about averages and the attribute table (CKG has alternate tables) used. Per your advice, I am holding back from the CKG for now. Looking forward to picking it up once the new one is out. :D p.s. anyone getting not below 14 (on average, or even twice in a year) using 3d6, is cheating. True...

Attribute Rolling

Question: what is the real impact of changing the roll method? I have seen several methods and am curious, are they really that different? 3d6 Assign them as the roll SDCIWC 3d6 - Assign as you desire 4d6 drop lowest 3d6 - Reroll 1s Just use an matrix (example: 5th D&D offers - 15,14,13,12,10,8) 2d6...

Re: Suggested Media

So regardless of what the Government does or does not do, it is still the parents failure or success to do, or not do, something about it for their kids. Yes, I agree. And that is why, even though I could not afford to home school, I spent a lot of time trying to help my son be greater than the sch...

Re: Suggested Media

That's a parental fault, not educator fault. To a degree, true. But there were some shifts in the education route that made reading less important for a while. I have had educators share their thoughts and some do feel that the education system got lost for a while there. But to go back on topic, m...

Re: Suggested Media

I agree. With most of today's younger people, reading is a lost art and hardly taught anymore. Oh so true. My son's teacher was caught off guard by my son's reading ability. I loved books and found my peace in them when I was younger. So I tried real hard to give him the same gift. But there are se...

Re: Action or options for the "stunned"

Dictionaries and games do not follow the same rules for semantics. And... being "semiconscious" does not mean unable to do anything, or catatonic. It may limit what can be done, and slow it down, but it does not prevent action. Even concerted action. Yes, often games do not follow reality, thus we ...

Re: Action or options for the "stunned"

I normally impose an initiative penalty. Stunned does not mean paralyzed. stunned, verb past tense: stunned; past participle: stunned knock unconscious or into a dazed or semiconscious state. "the man was strangled after being stunned by a blow to the head" Yep, when they say someone was stunned I ...

Re: Suggested Media

I was thinking that books, as an experience, are MUCH closer to playing D&D types of RPGs than movies. You imagine from the narrative what everything looks like. FAR more interactive brain wise than just watching a flick. While I agree with the overall thought, the reality is, if I am in a conversa...

Re: Compatability of C&C material

Yep. Thats how I have been running my current online game. I like it, a lot, but some of the players don't, because they like to see their character is progressing, rather than have it happen out of the blue. However, they don't do all the book keeping, I do. The first game I played in where the GM...

I was trying to explain what I do when playing and the person said: So it's like you play in Lord of the Rings. She related what I was describing to the movies. So this made me curious, if you were going to recommend five movies or TV programs to offer a taste of the fantasy RPG as you see it, what ...

Update!!! I leveled and was able to roll more HPs for Wolfgar Stoutbeard, my cleric. Throwing the die . . . bounce, bounce and . . . a . . . 1!!! Woot!!! Nice, 4th level cleric with 10 HPs! :D This is just wrong. At some point, if I were the GM, I would give you a couple of HP to level set. This is...

Re: Compatability of C&C material

One other option, if you want a particular pace for advancement, just don't do XP at all. Run the adventures and when you want them to advance then just tell them they leveled. They level when you expected them to, not before or after. Let the treasure be just that. Thus the pace is based on the fun...

Re: Move and Attack - How about Attack and Move?

I always struggle with players who pick one class and really want to play another. If you want to play a front line fighter, then select one. Don't select a wizard then be shocked you can't treat them like front line fighters. If you elect to play a wizard then you are heavy artillery in the trainin...

Re: Move and Attack - How about Attack and Move?

I think the issue is really the envision of someone with a sword being able to run in 20' and attack the opponent 20' away. Yet when it comes to magic, we do not envision a fleet footed wizard running 20' back behind some cover while shooting magic missiles on the run.. No, I asked on of the trolls...

I am sure players around the world would like your price better.

I would bet some prices in games are set to control access and not to reflect reality. But that is just a guess on my part. ;)

Hey, looks like a typo. Drop a zero and the historic price fits the PHB price. I think the typo of 200gp was just in this thread. The PHB has them as 25gp. I have always liked the idea of a mule(s) to help out the party. When I play as a character, I will buy one at some point if the party does not...

I have to admit I like the visual of the goblin struggling to get free while being shot by his mates.

Added a "So what do I do with this?" section. I think by tweaking this idea to fit a particular world, I could see whole adventures based on an ingredient gathering trip where the players are hired to protect the alchemist. Think of the fun of collecting rare ingredients, monster parts, or other th...

Hum, not good. Only one above average and one almost at average. Oh well:
6-8 carry a -1 att. modifier.
13-15 get a +1 att. modifier.
So I am thinking 13 in STR and 10 in INT and we have the local Black Smith.
