Re: Quesiton on NPCs as Monsters

If the NPC has a class and level and they come from a player race then I stat them from the PHB, if they are a monstrous character with levels and abilities above and beyond the norm, then they get the BAB of their HD with bonuses for having levels. These kinds of characters are rare however, usuall...

Re: Modifier as Attribute

The strength score in particular is also a measure of force. The amount of weight you can lift in a military press, deadlift, etc. as function of the raw attribute multiplied by some factor. So although your modifiers might be the same if you have a strength of 9-12, your raw power is different. As ...

I'm new to this C&C thing, but I'm always on the lookout for cool source material I can add to my own homebrew world. Backed.

Re: Literacy in C&C

Yeah I should have clarified. Rogues and Assassins can read, but can't necessarily write. Reading and writing I assume are part of the skillset for a caster character or a Bard and everybody knows how stuck up and highfalutin the elves are. "Wot with thur fancy shmancy elf stuff."

Re: Old hand. New to C&C

I just have to get through the next month or so at work; 60 hours a week since the start of May and until the end of July is kind of putting my RPG aspirations on hold at the moment. In any case, dachda (who used to live in Portland) was kind enough to contact me and mentioned his old group is witho...

Re: Literacy in C&C

Just to make things dificu ... er ... interesting, I have about five regional languages and no common tongue in my homebrew campaign world. Instead there is a very rudimentary "trade tongue" which allows people to express themselves well enough to ask for prices, count coin and talk about the qualit...

Re: Non TLG books you just love to use with C&C

I'm brand new to C&C and have yet to really get into a group playing it, but no matter what RPG I've played in or GMed, the 1st ed. DMG, Wilderness Survival Guide, 2nd ed. "Campaign Sourcebook and Catacomb Guide" splat book, and the D&D Rules Cyclopedia have always been books I refer to often for id...

Re: Old hand. New to C&C

I know my old gaming group still plays the 4th ed. of "that one game that bears the name of the game that isn't that game anymore" and I'm still friends with a couple of those guys so maybe I'll do some arm twisting and get them to try something new. I'm sure I'll have to DM, but that's actually som...

Old hand. New to C&C

After taking a long break from tabletop gaming about 3 years ago (4th ed. finally did me in) I'd been getting the itch to play again recently and I sort of stumbled into a bunch of OSR blogs and the like and a few of them mentioned C&C. Intrigued, I picked up a copy of the PHB through amazon and I h...
