Re: Rogue tactics

Great advice. I like to play cnc as close to RAW as possible, so I don't modify much. As far as rogues go, I envision using a swashbuckler style rogue so I'll have a bow but I'm not a cloak and dagger kind of guy. I prefer the errol flynn approach. In which case maybe I should consider a different c...

Rogue tactics

So I have never actually played a rogue over an extended campaign. I have never experienced the growth needed to understand how a rogue works. How do they stay alive? They don't have spells and they obviously aren't a front line fighter. Sure, they can effectively lob arrows at bad guys, but for a g...

Re: Who here enjoys playing wizards?

I really dislike the vancian casting system so I generally eskew magic users. However, having seen what happens at higher levels to the wizard so maybe someday I'll eat my words with a side of fireball.

I like barbarians for their fierce feel, their skills, and intimidation. Very cool. Admittedly, my love of fighters has impeded me from playing them. Fighters forever!

Re: Who here enjoys playing rogues?

I have a hard time playing rogues, too squishy. For that reason I prefer pathfinder rogues or 4e rogues. The 4e rogue is squishy, but he is a glass canon so he hits way hard! An acceptable trade off. The cnc rogue can hit hard, but its more difficult. For that reason, I lighten up on the sneak attac...

Re: Cell Phones at the table

Scheduling breaks is a great idea. However, generally speaking, very few people are actually so important that they aren't able to separate themselves from their phone for a few hours. To be 100% honest, I have never met a role player who was that important (myself included). People who are so impor...

Have you run a demo night? When I was actively playing 4e, it took playing a session of dnd followed by cnc to really understand how great the system was to really convert.

I read through the Aihrde M&T, how do you pronounce anything in this book?! My word, I feel like I'm making all the words up. Jokes aside, how do you pronounce Aihrde? Can someone one write it phonetically please. Is it: Air-rid Ire-duh Air-duh Eye-rd Arrrd Arda A little guidance would be appreciated.

Non prime class abilities

How do you all handle checks connected to a character's class but that are none prime. For example let's say my dwarf rogue has dex/con as primes, he can still use the listen skill but is he doomed to use it from a CB 18? I thought I read on the forums of a few ways to remedy this oddity. What have ...

Re: New to C&C, some questions to ask

You could also take a more "modern" approach and award the fighter some sort of guardian skill. Something like, once per round if an opponent adjacent to the fighter attacks someone other than the fighter, allow the fighter to make a SIEGE check. If the check is successful, the opponent's attack is ...

Re: What is needed in between adventures?

The whole premise of a winter phase is that adventurers dont adventure 24/7. They go home sometimes, and when they do they don't just sit around. Based on what responsibilities a pc has will determine what table they roll on. Do they own land? Are they a farmer? Roll to see how there crops fared. Ar...

Re: Advantages . . . in the CKG. Anyone using them?

I enjoy feats in all their iterations. I mainly use advantages to allow players to swap out class abilities, for example, a fighter can take cleave instead of combat dominance. I see that the CKG says you can stack the bonuses of both if the CK wishes. I'll assume you don't allow that 'cause the fi...

Re: Has anyone been playing the Dragon Age RPG?

The mechanics didnt change, it is still a roll 3d6 to accomplish tasks, choose talents, focuses or specializations at level up. Fantasy age did change the attributes. They removed most of the da one's and replaced them with something else. They also split up the rogues attack and def stat. In da the...

Re: No illusionist healing -tweak

I too allow illusionists to heal. The essay about illusion magic in the CKG is pretty convoluted, but in a nutshell it says, illusion magic is as real as arcane magic. Fine, whatever, it works. I gave up on the whole, real/fake healing. However, that being said, I forgo the saving throw and allow th...

Additionally, if the pc should be able to reasonably accomplish the task, say a barbarian trying to burst thru a door (an unreinforced wood door), then skip the die rolling all together and keep the story moving.
