Obviously only the trolls can say for sure but my guess is the multiple attacks [claw, claw, bite, wing buffet, tail slap] at 20-30HD [that's +20-30 to hit] made grown men cry.

Re: Clerics and Spontaneous Casting
I don't allow spontaneous casting but I do allow spell swapping....LIke so Reading a spell from your spellbook, or praying for a different spell. Characters may swap spells if they successfully make an ability check [INT/WIS] with CL being the level of the spell. Failure means they lose the spell fo...

Remember this means it only needs to touch not hit. See the touch rules on Armor Class. It makes this class of beast terrifying.TheMetal1 wrote:The stat block says "Incorporeal Touch (1d4)"

New Minis Sept 2011
I did not paint at all during the summer, but I did get 5 C&C games in for my group which was good. So last week I picked up the brushes and started some new figures. First this Balrog is a old Grenadier figure I found in the "box-o-stuff". balrog.jpg Second is a Reaper figure obviously. It is paint...

Re: Speeding up initiative and play with a large group
This will probably sound crazy but I did away with Init. No one seems to complain and it makes things even faster. Since combat rounds are pretty short I have everything occur [basically] simultaneous. I sort of decide what I'm going to do quickly then I have the PC make all there actions then I exe...

Tomorrow apparently has no meaning for me. But the new Monster forum is up. Its in the General category! Awesome! Now, if we only could find someone to move the monster threads into the new forum. I'd volunteer, but I'm not a moderator. :P You are now. Thanks for volunteering, Marv! ;) Haha ;) -Mike

Re: an alternate way to play the game?
Should difficulty be based on hit dice? Is a hill giant really harder to sneak by than a hound dog? Easy, average, and hard should be absolutes, not relative to level. A 10th level character should be better at hard tasks than a 1st level character, and a hard should be an absolute quality, not a r...

hmm.. My take on that is Orc's are stupid bullies, tactics and logic is for someone else. If 4 "humans" break into the room. Two of which have swords drawn, coming at you and your buddies, then guess who needs to be dealt with in the 6 secs after the door opens. Yes the dudes with the swords. If the...

Produce Flame - Clarification?
Sometime I'm a little dense so I thought I'd check with some other folks.... The Spell reads... The flames can be used to attack. The caster can hurl them or use them to touch enemies. Successful touch attacks deal 1d4+1 point per two caster levels. The flame can be thrown up to 50 feet, igniting an...

Yes, he can kill one of the Orcs on his turn, but there's nothing he can do to stop the Orc from just casually traipsing by and killing the squishy classes. I think you trying to put to much detail into the combat system. It's 6 seconds of abstract combat. If a fighter says I'm holding back the lin...

LOL, I'm hoping I'll be a little younger then that by the time it is all out and ready to be run. By my calculations, at our current pace, my group will finish Castle Whiterock in the summer of 2013. Finely Crafted Armor 16.6 CKG question
Does chart 16.6 page 240 of the CKG seem in error with regards to the EV's listed? I was just looking over it and I can't figure out what was meant. The Elf Mail Shirt is listed as 10lbs and 5 EV here... Other armor is also listed oddly? Did the table get messed up or do I just not understand.

Re: Importing Surge value
That's an interesting idea, and I may well try it. Currently, my house rule is that all healing spells go for the full amount if they are cast in a non-threatening situation. If the caster cannot relax and concentrate on maximizing the spell (e.g., in combat), then a roll is made. oh I like that! I...
