Re: Permanency & Con saving throw
I do have a little more free time than I used to, as I don't have people I have to take care of anymore as a second job. So if the Trolls ever need me I'm game, schedule and personal time permitting. Part of me wants them to hit me up, .... Do they know that? Have you reached out to tell them? I'm ...

Re: Permanency & Con saving throw
Traveller tried and I think it damn near killed him. I'm not dead. Not yet at least. ;) But it certainly wasn't easy to go through all of them to try and fix everything up. Clearly there were things missed, and I knew I wouldn't catch everything. The worst one to do was Monsters & Treasure, sim...

Re: Wow - Yggsburgh is back...
I am really beside myself with the announcement that Mr. Gygax's work is coming back to Troll Lords. It should never have left the Troll Lords in the first place, and the method by which it was yanked from them was total bullshit. While I am pleased that Gary's work will once again grace the Troll ...

Re: Oddity with coins in a backpack
Based on history most coins, especially gold and silver, weigh nowhere near an ounce. I posted an article on the Knights of the Crusade forum regarding this. Because that forum seems to no longer be maintained, I'll reprint it here. The problem is that the coin weights have always been off, and it s...

Re: Where to find the Victorious Ignition Event
Due to a cosmic accident, superheroes from a 21st Century alternate Earth are transported through time to that Earth's 19th Century. The Earth of Victorious is an Earth where the heroes and villains of Victorian-era fiction are real. Thus it's possible to actually interact with Sherlock Holmes or Dr...

Re: Criticals & Fumbles
No critical fumbles here, but a 20 invokes the Basic Roleplaying (specifically the 1981 version) impale rule: the weapon does maximum damage plus an additional die roll's worth of damage. For example, a sword normally doing 1d8 damage would do 8 + 1d8 damage.

Re: Am I wrong or there's a loophole in the encumbrance rules?
I wasn't rude at all. You just didn't like me calling out your players for attempting to game the system. While in reality it's possible to stick multiple bags into a larger bag, in terms of the RAW you cannot do that, and any player attempting that at my table would be laughed at and told "no&...

Also, stating that an item that has a 1EV value (like a soap) is the same of an item that has 7 (a large tent) when it's time to stuff them inside a backpack is not simplify, it's poor writing. I will house rule things. Note that a capacity item can only carry up to X items. Capacity items are not ...

Re: The error that changed the face of Dungeons & Dragons...
Just to point out that the quoted passage from Kayolan is something Holmes added to the rules, as OD&D treated clerics as little more than fighting men with an edged weapon restriction and spellcasting ability. Supplement I did try to make wisdom relevant to clerics, but it only served as an XP ...

Re: Defender AC for grappling
Cap, did you read from the AD&D DMG or the d20 version? You should be reading from the latter, not the former. Anyway, "Grandpa" is correct in that the Freedom of Movement spell (and ring) do not work against non-magical methods of impeding progress. This means that a naturally occurri...

Re: Defender AC for grappling
I only use the 1st-3rd printing PHBs when running C&C, and I use the rule as it is presented in those printings: "The armor class of a defender in an overbearing attack is different than normal. A standard armor class of 15 is used for all defenders, as armor has little effect on the capac...

Re: Defender AC for grappling
In a grapple attack, the defender's AC is based on whether or not STR is prime, but then they also get their STR and DEX bonuses, correct? So a defender with STR as a prime and, let us say, a +1 STR bonus and +2 DEX bonus has an effective AC of 18 + 3 = 21, correct? (Let's not confuddle the example...

The prints prior to the 6th all list the Great Scimitar as a two-handed weapon, noted by the use of an asterisk. The asterisk for the Great Scimitar is missing from the 6th and 7th prints, and I know I didn't call for its removal. I never would have noticed it without seeing this thread as I use the...

Re: Cleric Spells
The current printing of "Of Gods & Monsters" has unique spells for each pantheon and, I believe, each deity. So it is possible to vary up the spell lists with some unique spells. Doing so with spells of your own creation is perfectly feasible. Go for it.

Re: Star Treck RPG
The problem with the core rulebook, as has been pointed out in some reviews in the past, is it's a bit overwritten. For an example, spending a point of momentum in the rulebook says you buy 1d20 and the d20 is treated as rolling a 1. It would have been easier for Modiphius to write that spending a p...

Re: Question / Discussion about Delay Poison
Simply for bookkeeping reasons as the CK I would ding the imbiber of the potion when the next interval comes up after the potion's effect ends. Otherwise I have to keep track of everyone individually, which would be a pain. While the potion is in effect of course there is no damage.

Re: Magic Dragons
Dorf has it right. Creatures with spellcasting ability get the special for each "breakpoint" in spell levels. Thus a spellcasting dragon able to cast 9th level spells would receive a Type I, Type II, and Type III special. As to not being satisfied with dragons, my solution wasn't to beef u...

I use WinRAR, but I didn't have a recovery record in my RAR files at the time. That has since been corrected.
It's not a huge deal as I still have PDFs of the White Box to work from. It just means I get to do things over again.
