Re: Half-orcs: How often do have you seen them used as PCs?

In our 5E Games Half-Orcs are common. The bonus to Strength and Con,Darkvision and on Crit deal X3 damage make them ideal for fighter types. Also it doesn't hurt that if you drop one to 0 hit points or less they instead pop up to 1hp,once per day. Also factor in that most run the Faerun setting with...

Re: Mind flayer

I used to have a pdf of someone's unofficial-just for home use : Forbidden Monsters (or some such name) with all the monsters stated out for C&C. This was a while back, like maybe 2010-2013. I can't be the only one that used that source was I? I dunno but in my memory many CK's used it. I wish I had...

Re: D&D 5th Edition Discussion

Been gone a long while playing 5E. It's a fairly decent game with some major issues cooked into the system. It does encourage the same build your character with wowzer powers in this order in this way to be UBER SNOOBER. Some classes and races are stupid unbalanced and some of those front load the u...

Re: Half-orcs: How often do have you seen them used as PCs?

It's rare but Half Orc's get plaid at my table a lot more than Dwarves.
I love Dwarves but I can count PC Dwarves on one hand in 40 years of playing.
Half orcs prob several dozen, though still low.

Need info on monster books.

Does the Castles & Crusades Monsters & Treasure of Aihrde have totally different monsters than in Castles & Crusades Monsters & Treasure?

If they have enough different monsters I will get both but...wasn't sure.

Thanks!

Whats changed?

I have been gone for a while and am just now getting back into C&C again. The last book I bought was the (at the time) brand new Castle Keepers Guide. I actually bought the small version or miniaturized version and loved it. I just decided last night after running 5E for the last time, that I was he...

Re: C&C and 5e

After years of playing 5E the very things I liked about it at the start are what I hate now. Advantage/disadvantage is simply and easy and stupid as hell. Adv/dis is equal to a +5/-5 mod so EVERY single modifier is +5/-5. They don't stack so its just as easy to hit a guy with a sword in the dark sta...

You know I read threads like this and realize how bad things have gotten. It's a seemingly small thing and I can see many posters trying to dance carefully around and not confront things head on for fear of insulting someone especially a fellow gamer who likes C&C. I certainly don't want to send the...

Re: Returning to C&C after a long hiatus

I'm back as well after the long trying mess that was 5E. Don't get me started on 5E I will some up that I liked it even though it has major issues but liked it only about 5% as much as I love C&C. It's nice that as soon as we made the decision to switch back to C&C suddenly 90% of my stuff became us...

The sad thing is that really is not even on my list of worst games. Re: Alcohol and gaming

I will be the devils advocate (it's too easy to see the issues with drinking and rpg's) and say you can have a great time drinking and role playing if either done in moderation or if EVERYONE is trashed. One of the best games EVAH, was done totally trashed, we all had a GREAT time. We just don't rem...

Re: 5th Edition

I have been away from C&C for a long while now. I ran a 5E game since it's release off and on. I played in a Pathfinder game for about that time as well. The Entire time I missed C&C BADLY. D&D5E is a MUCH better game than 3.5 or 4E was for our normal role playing fun. Pathfinder is the Crunch King ...

Re: Rising Knight for 5th Edition D&D?

D&D 5E was just like the diet food my wife bought me. I tried it and it was fine, not the greatest in the world but without all the things I wanted to do without. Then one day I woke up and couldn't take any more. It just wasn't the real deal and no matter how much better it was than before, it left...

Re: Initiative,movement and rpg's

Also not a fan of everyone gives their actions at the start of the round. It doesn't really help things as either you force people to waste their round if what they wanted to do doesn't work or you let them off the hook (with or without a penalty) and they do something else(in that case what was the...

Re: Initiative,movement and rpg's

Having pc's and creatures being able to take actions regardless of what initiative they rolled doesn't really work though. Why bother rolling initiative then? How much can he do before his initiative comes up? Does it effect what he can do for the round? You completely removed, in your example, the ...

Re: Initiative,movement and rpg's

So your idea is to decide for yourself what all the bad guys do, then ask all the players what they do, then roll initiative? Or do you roll initiative first the decide? Slowest to fastest? Fastest to slowest? Seems like there would be issues with that(but there are issues with just about anything I...

Re: Initiative,movement and rpg's

How? How do you handle it. For instance two characters are at the bottom of a ladder with goblins at the top. Never in 40 years of gaming have I seen or heard of a DM doing anything but paying lip service to that statement. Oh sure retroactively they might rehash it in such a way so that it makes se...

Re: Initiative,movement and rpg's

Too artificial. Why should you be able to move across the room before I can stab the guy I'm standing behind. I just use init to see who gets a fraction of a sec jump (after all have announced intentions for the round). I resolve combat based on what the situation is in front of me (the GM). Trying...

Re: Initiative,movement and rpg's

The normal initiative systems for most rpg just seem wrong to me. I realize it's just a game and frankly I'm not a simulationist at all but in standard play. Everyone rolls initiative and goes on there turn. So lets say I rolled a 20 and you rolled a 19. Counting down it's my go. I'm 5 feet from you...

Initiative,movement and rpg's

So I was watching a 5E D&D DM run a game at a comic/rpg store and he used house rules that reminded me of classic D&D(house rules maybe?). I really like his jury rigged system a lot as it solved several issues I have always had with tabletop games. This is my take on his system and what it seemed li...

Re: D&D 5th Edition Discussion

I am DMing 5E and have been since it's release. I am starting to dislike 5E because of the reasons below. 1-15 min work day? try 15 min Adventuring Career. The game seems designed around 1-20th level in one adventure path or around 20 sessions. WAY too fast and although it would have a easy fix, doe...

Re: Compatability of C&C material

D&D is designed around playing one adventure path in under 20 or so sessions to hit max level. That seems to be it's lose and general rule of thumb. Most older RPG's are designed to have many adventures and can take years of playing to reach max level. Both of those design choices have a good and ba...
