Re: Repost of Steve's latest facebook update for upcoming bo
That's a shame that Mr. Ward isn't working on G&M; I'm sure everybody on this forum was inspired by his 1e work! Maybe a Pantheon construction guide/tables in the appendix somewhere? Looking forward to the 'Planar Book'; I've always liked the idea of demi-planes and pocket dimensions as opposed ...

@rhuvein I might admit to one of those descriptors, but not both!
@Captain K Good to know, it was an intentional Troll decision. Doubt I would use a bottle opener, anyway.

Weird Little Package
The other day I had a small package from the Troll Lords in my mailbox. Inside: 2 of the C&C coins, and 2 C&C USB drives. Thing is, I don't remember ordering this! Maybe a KS reward I don't recall? Did I get someone else's order? Ah well, they will make nice little handouts if/when I get a n...

Re: Clerics switching gods and alignments
That does seem like a conflict in frpg gaming - cultures are assumed to be polytheistic, worshiping pantheons, but clerics and paladins are based on monotheistic Templar Knights and the like. I always thought dishonorable deeds are much more offensive than idle ceremonies. And I like the idea of an ...

Yep, I figure the spell's 'verbal component' is pretty difficult: "S-S-S-S--A-A-A-A--F-F-F-F--E-E-E-E. . ."mgtremaine wrote:And now the song is stuck in my head... DOH!

Here is what is in the hopper (this does not include the two KSers) Adventurers Spell Book, Rogues Gallery, A18 The Torture Gardens (level 6 of Aufstrag), Gods & Monsters (2nd edition), and Planar Adventures (not the final title). Was just ruminating about book names, and was thinking: Rogues G...

The LOTR films had a sense of care and passion behind them - the Hobbit trilogy by comparison felt like a bloated cash-out. If LOTR had never existed, maybe the Hobbit would've gotten a better reception? Same could be said for the Star Wars prequels. . .

Wow, Captain I don't remember that version - picture? On the 5th printing, I have noticed that a few 'creepy-crawlies' seem absent: Beetle, Giant Slug, Giant Wasp, Giant (or Bee) Don't get me wrong, I like the new M&T, but doesn't it seem like these are classic, versatile critters that should be...

I will have to get the Encounter Index - seems perfect for on the fly encounters at the table, opposed to lugging around a heavy book.

Maybe I was lucky to get mine quick. . . the Trolls did post on KS that storms/power outages have kept shipping to a crawl, but they are gradually getting back up to speed.

I finally watched Yor: The Hunter from the Future, and have to say it's among the worst movies of all time (acting, writing).
He starts out in a stone age environment but ends up in a laser battle with androids. Sort of like Expedition to the Barrier Peaks - if it were really, really bad!

Just received my color M&T!
My hardcopy Monsters & Treasures arrived a couple days ago. It really does feel like a needed accessory - who wants to remember what monster is in what book? A few quick, first reactions: Not every monster has an illustration. Those that do are of high quality; it's nice to see full page art, a ...

I suppose TLG is caught in a bind - 5e products are always going to reach a wider audience and be more profitable, while ignoring the core products? I've seen some game books with a 5e stat appendix to maximize sales, seems like a decent compromise.

I'm pretty sure Lolth (along with the Drow) were retained as D&D IP; I figured I can always import her from my old Fiend Folio! I don't have my copy in front of me, but remember the various 'at will' powers increased the challenge level above and beyond mere HP and damage range. Seemed like that...

To each their own, I suppose.
I've backed the last couple Troll kickstarters, but am having trouble biting the bullet on this one. $100 for a box of flimsy little digests? I don't quite get the appeal . . .

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?
From what I see (on LuLu), ASE looks a lot more like Gamma World than FRPG. Still, based on the strength of these reviews I'll have to obtain!
A mix-n-match approach might work - e.g. a 'traditional' megadungeon with 'gonzo' side areas. . .(which actually sounds quite a bit like Castle Greyhawk).

I finally got a copy of Stonehell (pt. I). A mega-dungeon written for Labyrinth Lord, put compatible with most D&D-style systems. I like what I've seen so far - as expected it is a huge complex, but broken down into bite-sized chunks so that it is relatively easy to read and absorb.

Re: GM Hidden or Open Dice [Old Topic]?
Interesting reactions so far! No real consensus, but it's not either/or for many folks - sometimes it's situational. Even as an 'open roller', I admit that this may make it more difficult to avoid unsatisfying TPKs (which I consider to be 'allowable' fudging since you don't want to discourage new pl...

GM Hidden or Open Dice [Old Topic]?
Probably as old a discussion as RPGing itself, but Troll Lord's recent GM Tips got me thinking about it again. To quote: "The dice don’t run the game. You do. Roll dice behind a screen to allow yourself the option of fudging a dice for or against the party/character in order to keep momentum go...

Re: Best ON SCREEN dragon.
To echo my comment in the earlier thread, I'd have to go with Vermithrax from Dragonslayer. Hmm, for what it's worth I own both Dragonslayer and Krull and watch them occasionally - and there are a few things I like about Krull like the cyclops and the creepy spider-web scene. But there's no accounting for taste! On the swords & sandals 80s craze, I think we tend to give them a pass bec...

Is there hate for Dragonslayer on this thread?! Decent acting, good story, and in my mind hands-down the best dragon ever envisioned for the screen. I might go with that old standby Krull - totally flat performances, misfired effects, slow pace, just a hard slog. Honorable mention, though, to Jackso...

Re: Fate Points from Hero
That's the kind of thinking I wish more superhero rpgs embraced - in the comics they are always 'pushing' their powers to create new effects (and in some fantasy, too!).
I'm curious, does anyone else think it's fair to award 'villain points' to important NPCs?

Re: Wizards, Fighters, and Balance
This is the most common critique of C&C I see on the web, but I personally like the idea of a high level spellslinger being dangerous to an entire party. Very unfun for everyone when the sorcerer witch-king's most potent attacks continually fizzle! That said, I've never liked 'insta-death' spell...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?
Have you read Playing At the World ? I'm curious how the two accounts compare. I have a copy, but honestly found it to be a hard slog that I couldn't get through, as it dives deep into the history of kriegspiel and bizarre 19th century chess variants that eventually led to modern wargames (and thus...
