Re: GM Hidden or Open Dice [Old Topic]?

This question is more "fudge or don't fudge" and the answer is a big hell no to fudging. Fudging is cheating and perhaps more importantly, it is the pinnacle of railroading. It is the GM refusing to let the players even keep the consequences of their own rolls. Don't do it. So yeah, you may as well ...

Re: Giants are undersized

I think you are failing to imagine just how big 25' is. This image is from a different game, but it does show the scale well. That Triax X-500 Forager Battlebot is the closest to 25' tall (it is 29.5' tall). Just looking at that thing is enough to know that it wouldn't have too much trouble eating ...

Re: Should paladins have horsemanship ability?

Ok, I've given this some thought tonight. Here is how I think I want to add it to my house rules. Paladins gain the Horsemanship ability of the Knight without the Charge attack, but only when mounted on their Divine Mount. R- At the very least, you should probably get rid of the ability to both hav...

Re: Should paladins have horsemanship ability?

Treebore, I think you are being a bit too generous with your version of Paladin Horsemanship. I'd limit it to this: HORSEMANSHIP (DEXTERITY): Paladins are trained on and are familiar with all types of horses, from mounts used for riding to heavy war horses. Without the need for an attribute check, P...

Re: Should paladins have horsemanship ability?

I think the -2 penalty is probably fine for Paladins in any case. I'd interpret the horse fighting as mentioned above; horse doesn't get any attacks if the rider is attacking also. I agree with that, but if the Paladin has to make a check first, it still isn't worth even trying. Especially if he is...

Re: Should paladins have horsemanship ability?

There are many things the paladin can do from horseback which does not require any sort of check including basic combat functions That is probably something that needs to be hashed out prior to any talk about whether or not the Paladin needs the Horsemanship ability. What exactly can a non-Knight d...

From the 4th printing of M&T page 129: " low-level characters to be 1 st -4 th level, mid-level characters to be 5 th -8 th level and high-level to be 9 th -12 th level." Hmmm.... mine doesn't even have a page 129. I must have an earlier version. What section is that in? Maybe i can find it. It is ...

Re: Class abilities as prime checks?

I was just taking that from the book. It cites low level as 1-4, mid level as 5-8, and high level as 9-12. It doesn't bother considering anything higher than that. Really? I don't recall it specifically saying that. Where is that found? Let's see, at 4th level, you get a +4 bonus compared to the ef...

Re: Class abilities as prime checks?

Think of it this way. At 1st level, you are just starting out- you're a trainee. You have little skill in your profession, and you're relying on natural talent. 6th level is the point where your training starts matches your natural ability, and then dominates at higher levels. -Fizz That would be f...

Re: Class abilities as prime checks?

To put it in perspective, a Dex/Str Ranger isn't as good at Survival as your average Cleric until he reaches levels 6-9. That is a fact that is really hard to justify. Think of it this way. Fair point.
I'm just more annoyed that no-one brought this up before - we should have had Egar doing the Ranger stuff instead of watching Mahrtiir fail a it. Mahrtiir won't be as good as Egar until he reaches level 8.

Re: Should paladins have horsemanship ability?

In principle, I think i would say that paladins should not get horsemanship. Unlike AD&D Unearthed Arcana, they aren't connected classes. So i don't think you should assume that they share any abilities. -Fizz Then how do you justify the Paladin's Deity giving them a faithful mount... that they can...

Re: Class abilities as prime checks?

Why not compromise?
Class abilities have a base check of 15 rather than 12 or 18. That way they are still moderately good at what they should be good at and you still have the potential of specialists being better.

Re: Should paladins have horsemanship ability?

I think at some point Knights and Paladins were the same thing and then they were split up for unknown reasons. There are plenty of places in the books where the existence of Knights is just completely forgotten (like the minimum age table in the CKG, or the entire Mystical Companions book). During ...

I don't think there is any way of recharging them by the book - aside from simply creating a new one at least. They are effectively just multi-use scrolls/potions.

If you look at Book of Dirty Tricks by Bill Webb you can see what a marshmallow Kayolan is. We should barely live a few minutes past character creation. I would rule that the spell gives a +1 to AC as the description says the effect is a +1 to AC, but looks and sounds like plate armor for purposes of Move Silently and Hide checks. What exactly does this spell do?
I am unsure as to whether it gives +1 AC, or whether it gives the AC of a +1 suit of plate (+8 or +9 depending on whether or not it is Full Plate).

So after careful planning, I have come up with this plan of attack in order to both acquire as many useful teleporters as we can and get the statues out of there so we can save them at a later date: Pick up 13A and take it to Mausoleum via 13B. Transport 13A to 5B via 8A (At Mausoleum). Pick up 5B a...

Re: Should clerics have a d10 hit die?

The real question is should the Cleric have a d8 hit die? Personally I don't believe the Cleric nor Druid should have a higher HD nor BtH than the Dex Prime classes. Ideally, I'd be more inclined to giving the Dex Prime classes d8 HD and 1/2 BtH progression, but dropping the Cleric and Druid down to...
