Re: Questions about Barbarian Special Abilities?

2) If the PCs are within the 15' radius around the barbarian when the skill is used, then I would say the allies gain the benefit of the debuff as well, though once they move outside that 15' radius that debuff benefit is lost. Not working outside the 15' radius. I never would have thought of that....

Questions about Barbarian Special Abilities?

Hey all, I asked this over in the FB group but it mostly went unanswered, so I'm hoping I can find a little more help over here. Two questions about Barbarian special ability Intimidate: 1) When the Barbarian uses it, do most of the DM's roll for every monster affected (which, at high levels could t...

Re: Flying People and Flight Rules (such as they may be)

Ah, thanks for the help. For a long time I assumed I had a later CKG because it talks about how Illusionists can cast healing spells, which is a development that didn't occur until later in C&C's evolution. Things I'd read online had me doubt that, and I began to get the idea that a CKG didn't come ...

Flying People and Flight Rules (such as they may be)

Hey gang, I'm probably looking right at them and right over them, but could someone more well-versed in this game than I am tell me what the name of the winged humanoids are in this game? I assume it has them -- every game does -- but all of the usual names (Winged People, Avians, etc) are coming up...

She could have used her wisdom drain and then charmed the whole party to join her merry band of minions. The next day or after the spell wore off the players could have slipped away on some pretence where they could gather their strength and make another attempt. I read the monster description quit...

Re: Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

I'd like to offer my thanks to everyone who weighed in on this question. As always, the respectfulness of this group stands out and makes it always a pleasure to be here. Some really great suggestions were offered on how to handle this sort of situation in the future, but I thought I'd take a moment...

Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

My players, as I have discussed many times, are big on rules. The idea of a narrative game where the GM decides many of the things on the fly just doesn't "set well" with them. Tonight, we had an issue. Before the big boss final encounter, I placed a large water stream. It was healing waters, put th...

Re: How about running away/chasing?

Any one with more than 5' of movement rate should win.. if they know where they're going. Dropping off weight and crap helps too. Warriors in full gear with weapons do not catch orcs who drop their gear to flee for their lives. I always assume "everything wants to live". Thus once the going gets to...

How about running away/chasing?

I don't recall seeing this elsewhere, although I may be overlooking it. Anyone got a good set of simple rules to allow for running away from a battle and/or chasing or being chased? It's easy to get into a fight, but not so easy (for me, anyway) to adjudicate escaping from enemies when the PC's are ...

Re: Tricky Question: Unusual but workable ways to break a Ch

After reading these replies, I think I like the "seeing a friend/relative/lover" in danger. The way I can work it is, our male (the one who would be Charmed if he fails his save) is our main fighter. So if the other player(s) go in to rescue him and I have them outnumbered and "out-toughed," then he...

Re: Tricky Question: Unusual but workable ways to break a Ch

Dispel magic , naturally. Thanks for the suggestions. :) Herein lies a problem with none of us liking magical characters, of course. Not one among us has access to a Dispel Magic. Of course, what we lack in magical recourse we make up for in gaming that we feel is more "logical." (Yes, in our opini...

Tricky Question: Unusual but workable ways to break a Charm?

I'm looking at running the next game probably next weekend. Normally, I have only two players, but we're waiting until next weekend to see if we can get our third. (Usually not; our third plays only very rarely). Regardless of whether I have two or three players, I'm planning an encounter with a Lam...

I never know what any of the abbreviations mean, ... I just smile, nod my head, and pretend I understand what it is. Re: They said I should play a different game, so I did!

Charisma is not a dump stat. None of the stats are dump stats in C&C. All of the stats are tied into saving throws. Charisma is actually associated with saves against some very nasty effects like death magic. Okay, whatever you call it. It's the stat they put their lowest scores in and never choose...

Re: non-Vancian magic

FWIW, I don't think of the rules as written as "fire and forget." I use that system, but I think of it differently. I think of it as, spells take a lot of time to cast, and many need special items to cast... not even necessarily hard to acquire but still things they need (like dirt to cast any spell...

Hey gang! Okay, so I've been away because we were playing a different game and just didn't have time to run two different games concurrently. Yes, Alternate Hit Dice (p. 10, Supplement I - Greyhawk). Fighter d8 Magic-User d4 Cleric d6 Thief d4 (This class was introduced in Supplement I). Yep, Thief at d4. That's the hit die assignments I'm seeing in most games (including Basic Fantasy, which is another game worth a second or third look!).

Re: CKG's Mana and Spellcasting Option

If I were going to screw with the spell system, it wouldn't be to straight up increase the power of spellcasters. Yeah, I would never want to give Spellcasters more power, and I do realize that the system presented in the CKG will certainly do that, especially at the higher end of things. But I do ...

Re: Should clerics have a d10 hit die?

I've never seen the real White Box, but retroclones put the hit dice assignments like this: Fighters: d8 Clerics: d6 Wizards: d4 In book 1, everyone had a d6 hit die (and all weapons did d6 damage). Did that ever change to the assignments I've listed above? A lot of retroclones seem to do it that w...

I never tried it, but i was (am) intrigued, is the system used in the Sovereign Stone setting. In this system, every spell has a casting threshold (no levels). Each round of casting, a spellcaster collects d20+level (and +modifier iirc) in spell energy. Once they have collected enough energy to mee...

Well, this took a little more study on my part, so I went to an online SRD and read about how Saves are done in 3.5 (and, I presume, probably similarly done in all WotC editions). What I found is that C&C's method is more closely akin to the newer editions of D&D than the older TSR versions of the g...

This has been an incredibly useful thread for me! As a group who has never played above level 5, I did not realize this important point about Saves in C&C.
