Re: About new players, the CKG wastage rules and other considerations - long post

4) Mundane equipment that is used for weapon maintenance (sewing kits, whetstones, etc) don't add a bonus to the roll - instead, they make it so that the wastage effect is reduced by 1 automatically (upon the PC's decision to expend one use of the kit) and the PC can make a SIEGE check (using the c...

But what he is saying is that his players are interested in dealing with this sort of issue and he wants ideas on how to keep it interesting but simple. Just handwaving the idea and charging a % cost doesn't really solve the issue he is having. Let the OP respond Sure thing. Wasn't trying to underc...

Re: About new players, the CKG wastage rules and other considerations - long post

Just assess a certain amount of coin for clothing for when adventuring. And a certain amount for equipment wastage and maintenance when adventuring. Probably of % of the total cost of the equipment and clothing. Anything more detailed than that is boring unless they are in teh wilds for a LONG time...

Re: About new players, the CKG wastage rules and other considerations - long post

I use equipment wastage rules, here are my houserules, which I feel are simple enough and easy to follow, and also reward those that care about such things as sewing kits and whetstones. Wastage rolls are triggered by: 1) PC rolls a 1 on an attack. 2) Enemy attacker rolls a 20 on an attack. 3) If th...

Re: Are there new contents in the CKG 3rd Printing?

To be clear - so far they have not published an M&T with the new branding. As far as I can tell, they still have 5th printing M&T in stock and they don't tend to make new printings until the old one has declined in stock enough to warrant an entire print run. I do suspect, though, that they ...

Re: Are there new contents in the CKG 3rd Printing?

Yes, the 8th printing of the PHB is going to print next week. It has the new logo and text styling on the cover. The cover art is an homage to the 1st edition AD&D PHB, just as the cover art of the new CKG is an homage to the 1st edition AD&D DMG.

Re: Are there new contents in the CKG 3rd Printing?

There is new material in the book. The previous version of the CKG was 352 pages and the new one is 365 pages... that doesn't seem that different until you consider that they also removed 18 pages of the class info from the CKG and put it into the PHB. So the CKG is not only 16 pages longer than the...

This is correct.

The 5th Printing of the M&T has the monsters from Classic Monsters AND the creatures from the Codex Celtarum combined into the book.

Re: CZ boxed set

The value is what people will pay (a.k.a. it is worth what the market will bear). I know that's not helpful though. My helpful advice is this: Look at sold listings on ebay and at other used online outlets. The sold price will tell you what it is actually worth, rather than the pie-in-the-sky amount...

Re: Good modules for a convention one shot?

I've run Shadows of a Green Sky several times as a one shot for conventions or local game nights. It is a quickstart module for level 3-5 PCs, so the general C&C rules are in there along with some generic pregens. The adventure itself can be completed in one or two nights depending on how you ru...

You probably already know this, since you backed Dwarrowdeep, but just in case... And I just can't stop. Even though I just bought Dungeons of Aufstrag (and plan on filling it out) and have just started writing another original megadungeon, I stumbled across Greg Gillespie's latest KS for Dwarrrowdeep, a Dwarf ruin megadungeon, and I backed it. But, since it won't release until ...

Capacity items DO NOT make a recursive loop in my game. That is some Wile E. Coyote typ...

Re: Castle Keeper's Guide

Yes, the one with the injured companion being carried is the most recent CKG cover.

I also favor non glossy, non-color prints. The new CKG will have about 30 extra pages with new content, so it will be the first CKG that will be different from the other printings of the CKG.

Re: Castle Keeper's Guide

Not obsolete - but they just did a KS for it last year, so did not need to add it to the PHB kickstarter... and the CKG has never been a core book in the way D&D uses the term core book. The Castle Keeper's Guide has always been optional. The only thing you need to play is the PHB and if you wan...

Re: Castle Keeper's Guide

That's usually the trigger for running a new kickstarter - they are running low enough on physical stock that they need to make a new print run. That's what happened with both the CKG and the PHB; stock was low enough to warrant a new time-investment to update the art and formatting and make a print...

Re: 1st Ed and 2nd Ed DnD conversion to CnC

Yeah - the rationale for AD&D was that the person was being very careful and, if in battle, was parrying, dodging, defending, etc, along with the movement. As I said, if you just make 30 per round the standard human rate, then it shouldn't cause any issues - if a halfling instead moves 20 feet r...

Re: 1st Ed and 2nd Ed DnD conversion to CnC

Per the AD&D PHB page 102, a 12" movement rate equals 120 feet of movement every 1 minute, or 12 feet of movement every 6 seconds.

However, as long as you make everyone with a 12" mvmt rate have a 30ft move per round, it will work out just fine.

Re: 1st Ed and 2nd Ed DnD conversion to CnC

In terms of creatures specifically? Here's how I do it: 1) Look up the stats in AD&D and look, specifically, at the HD, HP, XP, and special attacks. 2) Go to the front of the Monsters & Treasure (page 12 in the 5th printing) and compare the HD/XP info there to see how close it is. 3) If the...

Re: Call Lightning - underpowered spell ?

So I have two comments about this... 1) I believe the spell is basically a port over from 1e AD&D and it reads very close to it... both take 10 minutes to cast, both produce 1 bolt every 10 min, both are level 3 druid spells... 2) There are a couple lightning based wizard spells that are meant t...
