Re: Evade vs Parry

It is up to the CK to determine which types of combat maneuvers are allowed at the table. You are correct that evade seems like a lesser powered option when compared to parry. I can't see a case where the CK would allow BOTH of those - more likely the CK would allow one as an optional combat maneuve...

That adventure is designed/written by Davis, so it probably takes place in Inzae, the sort of more grimdark sister world of Aihrde.

Re: Secondary Skills & Adding Level to Checks

I saw that slight discrepancy and I made sure to put something in my houserules about it... Here is what I say in the houserule doc that I give my players before character generation: Task Resolution – Ability Checks (a.k.a. SIEGE Checks): A Standard SIEGE check is d20+attribute modifier+level. The ...

Definitely 100 times better, but at 10 times the cost it is too rich for my wallet.

Of course, if your players are philosophers, do not engage when they try to justify their actions; keep it simple or nothing good will come of it. Didja hear this one: "A rules lawyer, philosopher and munchkin walk into a C&C game . . . " :P The tavernkeep said "We don't serve your kind here"...

Re: Wow man, Tiamat.

I have both. Paid 48$ for the new one and 65$ for the older one. What's the size difference, if any? Thanks. Relatively close - I think the base of the old one is 3x3 and the new one is 4x4. I'll have to get home and measure to be sure. I found this pic online with the comparison: http://gravengame...

Prepping a Planescape C&C Campaign

I am in the middle of prepping a Planescape based campaign for my group and we are using C&C. I got them each a new PHB - did the 5x5 deal for the 6th printing so that everyone at the table would have access to a book. I am using a slightly modified Tiefling race from the Crusader's Companion, and a...

Re: Please vote for your favorite PHB printing. (aesthetics)

For me it is a tough choice between 4th and 6th. I really like the thick black and white pages of the 4th, but the luxurious color and glossy feel of the 6th calls to me. So I voted 6th, but really it is like 50/50 for those two.

I don't know about dead links, but the Troll Lord Games store is found here: https://www.trolllord.com/tlgstore/ and has no dead links for me. Use the menu on the left hand side of the page to see the different categories and shop away!

Either way, it really has nothing to do with the original topic, which is increasing the ability of fighters to save vs magic at higher levels. Increasing the ability of fighters to save vs. spells has nothing to do with saving throws increasing as level increases? Um, okey-dokey then  No - w...

6th printing is a classy lady you take out for wine and cheese. 4th printing is the gal you can take to the local pub and toss back beer and pretzels. And 5th printing is the one you glance at and keep on going... :P I recommend either the 4th or 6th printing - stay away from 5th, it is very hard o...

Re: Character Death, Old School vs. New School

Death is a constant possibility in games I run - even high level ones (or maybe I should say especially high level ones). Add to that the fact that my game world doesn't have resurrection or raise dead and you see that death is pretty permanent. The PCs don't want to be raised because the only way t...

Re: D&D 5th Edition Discussion

RE those spell cards... I don't care about not getting them back in the box - I care about the fact that the first printing was missing whether or not the spells required concentration or not. Concentration is a BIG deal for casters in 5e and not including that was a major mistake. Also, a couple of...

Ha! I sent Tim an email. It's not a super big deal and I'm not extremely upset about it, just slightly disappointed because I was gong to gift that M&T to someone with one of the PHBs (I already have mine from backing the KS).

For an NPC... I would rule it as the story requires . As a CK, I reserve the right to make exceptional things in the world that don't behave according to the rules the PCs follow. This could be anything from broken legs to different kinds of magic that aren't spells, to doors that can't be opened, ...

Hit points are about stamina, fatigue, bruises, and bumps more-so than actual gaping wounds or lopped off body parts. Something like Cure Light Wounds or a healing potion heals those sorts of things with no problem. A broken bone is actually pretty serious and is not addressed with a simple cure lig...

Yeah, the basic rules are free in PDF straight from WOTC. I've read several reviews and something I have noted is that there is a fair amount of them written by 'old schoolers'. These reviews have all been very positive and have given lots of praise to the system. I am going to take another look at...
