Re: Castle Keeper's Guide

Yes, the one with the injured companion being carried is the most recent CKG cover.

I also favor non glossy, non-color prints. The new CKG will have about 30 extra pages with new content, so it will be the first CKG that will be different from the other printings of the CKG.

Re: Castle Keeper's Guide

Not obsolete - but they just did a KS for it last year, so did not need to add it to the PHB kickstarter... and the CKG has never been a core book in the way D&D uses the term core book. The Castle Keeper's Guide has always been optional. The only thing you need to play is the PHB and if you want to...

I love the lockpicking lawyer... the vids are short, sweet, to the point, and he shows you how the locks work - great content!

Also, the links worked for me.

Re: Castle Keeper's Guide

That's usually the trigger for running a new kickstarter - they are running low enough on physical stock that they need to make a new print run. That's what happened with both the CKG and the PHB; stock was low enough to warrant a new time-investment to update the art and formatting and make a print...

Re: 1st Ed and 2nd Ed DnD conversion to CnC

Yeah - the rationale for AD&D was that the person was being very careful and, if in battle, was parrying, dodging, defending, etc, along with the movement. As I said, if you just make 30 per round the standard human rate, then it shouldn't cause any issues - if a halfling instead moves 20 feet rathe...

Re: 1st Ed and 2nd Ed DnD conversion to CnC

Per the AD&D PHB page 102, a 12" movement rate equals 120 feet of movement every 1 minute, or 12 feet of movement every 6 seconds.

However, as long as you make everyone with a 12" mvmt rate have a 30ft move per round, it will work out just fine.

Re: 1st Ed and 2nd Ed DnD conversion to CnC

In terms of creatures specifically? Here's how I do it: 1) Look up the stats in AD&D and look, specifically, at the HD, HP, XP, and special attacks. 2) Go to the front of the Monsters & Treasure (page 12 in the 5th printing) and compare the HD/XP info there to see how close it is. 3) If the two are...

Re: 1st Ed and 2nd Ed DnD conversion to CnC

Doctor Warlock has a post about this on his blog here: Converting D&D/AD&D/D20 System to Castles & Crusades In summary, it goes like this: Armour Classes To convert a D&D Armour Class to C&C, simply subtract the given AC from 19. Remember that subtracting a negative number equates to the same thing ...

Re: Call Lightning - underpowered spell ?

So I have two comments about this... 1) I believe the spell is basically a port over from 1e AD&D and it reads very close to it... both take 10 minutes to cast, both produce 1 bolt every 10 min, both are level 3 druid spells... 2) There are a couple lightning based wizard spells that are meant to do...

Re: Quench spell & magic candles ?

Also note - the quench spell also works on one magical item, so if it is one candle, even magical with magical flame, the quench spell will still quench it.

Re: Quench spell & magic candles ?

I would rule that the flame is non-magical, therefore it can be extinguished by Quench. The candle itself being magical just means that it can last for an extreme amount of time without melting down, or the wick always takes even the smallest spark and lights... that doesn't change the fact that the...

Re: Temple of Elemental Evil to C&C(convertion problems).

I am going to put a couple of examples; Giant Lizard from the Adventure X P 189, Giant Lizard from C&C XP 40 + 4. Giant Tick from the Adventure X P 141; Giant Tick from C&C XP: 20+2. There must be some kind of error on the typo in the adventure so I guess I'll have to go with the xp assigned to the...

Re: Detect Thoughts spell

So my official ruling - it's your game and you should do with it what you want, you won't break C&C no matter which of these you decide, but if you want a researched answer, here it is: Here is the Basic D&D ESP Spell description (page 41, player's book): "This spell will allow the magic-user to "he...

Just finished reading One Word Kill by Mark Lawrence... it takes place in the 80s and the main characters play 1e DA&D... there is also time travel, a heist, and a tiny bit of character growth.

Re: Cleric Spells

My setting is polytheistic, and I see the cleric of a particular deity as calling upon that deity to grant them their divine powers. They don't ignore the other deities, but they have a special affinity for their divine patron. They are also well versed in ALL of the deities in terms of what they re...

Re: Great Scimitar

Wouldn't the extra cost of the great scimitar be the explanation as to why it is superior to both the scimitar and the two handed sword? If the great scimitar is two handed, the only difference between it and the two handed sword is 1 less EV, but you pay almost double the cost. I considered leavin...

Re: Great Scimitar

I would houserule that the Great Scimitar IS a 2-H weapon. My reasoning is thus: 1) The Scimitar (non-Great) does 1d6 damage, weighs 3 pounds, costs 15gp, and is a 1-handed weapon. 2) The Great Scimitar does 2d6 damage (2x the scimitar), weighs 6 pounds (2x the scimitar), costs 55gp (more than 2x th...
