Re: new C&C edition vs D&D Next
I don't want to be sitting around the table arguing with my players about the way we will be playing the game. I think the core rules sets the expectations of the players and a one size fits all approach sounds like an elephant in a rubber tu tu?

Re: How do people handle spell components?
I put spell components in the same category as calculating encumbrance...it's all extra detail that bogs down a game. With encumbrance I just use common sense as to whether or not a given character is encumbered. With components, I just ignore them altogether.

...The few old school type games I played in before findin a good group , really sucked. One group played nothing but modules, you couldn't roll up ya own characters in and there wasn't much room for character growth and the others were all text book lawyer type games. Even the GMs saw books as the...

Re: Well, it happened again, gents
This week I put together an online group for weekly sessions of OD&D. I got 7 players in only three days advertising on the "Looking for Group" forum on roll20.net. This morning I;m having to turn additional players away. I am refreshingly surprised at how easy it has been to find peop...

They are brand new as I made them only a couple weeks ago. Another thing you can do for effect is get one of these fancy index card boxes to store them in... http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/479106/Vaultz-Locking-Index-Card-Box-4/ I have "THE BOX" on the middle of the table with fresh...

Re: Level advancement
I've never liked the way D&D's experience and leveling system worked. I've replaced it with my own house ruled system... MrGrim's Experience and Leveling House Rules Players need 5 Experience Points to gain each level. In a standard game players get ONE experience point in the following ways... ...

4x6 Character Sheets
Thought I'd share the character sheets I designed for use with C&C and other old school editions of the game. These are intended to be printed on 4x6 index cards. There is a file for the front and the back of the character sheet and then a second set (front and back) for spell users. https://www...

Re: Well, it happened again, gents
I hear you on the color version. I prefer my 4th printing, but my dad swiped it from me because he has bad eyesight and the 5th printing is impossible for him. I am told the contrast in the 6th printing will be greatly improved. Nothing wrong with you waiting to see how it actually looks before dro...

Re: SRD for Castles and Crusades
Plus my sales numbers are just guesses, based upon what I have seen the Trolls give actual numbers for, so hopefully I am low balling the numbers for the core 3. I honestly hope they are doing very well with it. They have made a great product. I've been buying their stuff for two years even though ...

Re: SRD for Castles and Crusades
A GM WITH the full rule books complained that there wasn't enough open content for him to give his players so that they could play with him. All the class abilities and spells are open content. With all that if a GM can't handle checks and the like, they shouldn't be running a game. Arduin...I give...

Re: SRD for Castles and Crusades
You know...some data that was shared to me through some colleagues in my field suggest the sales of the other "popular" retro clones and indy games may actually be abysmal compared to where I thought they may have been. If what I am looking at is true, forget my business case for the marki...

Re: SRD for Castles and Crusades
@Anduin... While I don't have sales figures I think it extraordinary that someone would find my position on this extraordinary ;-) For instance, there is a complete SRD for Pathfinder here http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ The fact that Pathfinder is the #1 selling RPG should give one pause in saying that fr...

Re: Well, it happened again, gents
Have you tried introducing them to old school play with narrative combat (no map, no minis)? I've DMd a few groups on the Internet with this style of play over the last few weeks. Only a couple of the players had ever experienced the game like this (the way we used to play it). Most newer gamers can...

Re: SRD for Castles and Crusades
All this talk of an SRD for the Castle Keeper... When I started this thread it was due primarily for the need of the PLAYERS in my online games. In the last two weeks I've GMd several one off games with random players on roll20.net. I've moved to Swords and Wizardry for these games because I can sen...

Re: SRD for Castles and Crusades
I understand your issue. I've suggested before that TLG should make a book with just enough rules for someone to play a fighting type or a spell caster. The spell caster is really the one with the major issue because they need those spells. To agree with Arduin, that book just ends up looking a lot...

Re: SRD for Castles and Crusades
The value of an SRD is that when playing online, I could have players simply reference the SRD to see what abilities the classes and races have for both character generation and clarification while they are playing. I can do this already with both Pathfinder and Swords and Wizardry and it is VERY he...

Re: # Attack Clarification...
I think what was throwing us off was the inconsistency with the way some of the entries read. For instance... Attacks: 3 (2 claw 1d4, 1 bite 1d6) Attacks: 2 claw (1d4), 1 bite(1d6) Attacks: 2 claw (1d4), dagger (1d4) - (How does a creature attack with claws and a dagger at the same time? Shouldn't t...

# Attack Clarification...
I'm confused by the stat blocks in the Classic Monsters book regarding # of attacks. For instance...The entry for the Babbler has "Attacks: 2 claw (1d4), 1 bite(1d6)" whereas the entry for the Breater Basilisk is "Attack 3 (2 claw 1d8, 1 bite 1d6)". Putting that together, it seem...

Re: roll20.net
How does one go about finding a group to play C&C on roll20.net? I'd eventually like to run games myself using something like this but thought it would be better to start as a player.
