Relocating Adventures to Karameikos (Basic)
I am currently putting together a campaign for a B/X game returning to Mystara which I have not played in for a long long time (circa 1995). One of the players has played most of the B series modules and Assault on Blacktooth Ridge so I am wondering if there are any level 1 C&C adventures which ...

Depends on the edition and level but not much. HIgh level wizard for example is powerful but I do not enjoy them.

Re: Who here enjoys playing clerics?
Depends on the edition. They were a bit OP in 3E, I liked some priests in 2E, and I always run C&C so do not get to take a cleric as a player (or anything else).
I would probably play one in C&C I am not a fan of them in B/X type games and maybe 1E. I do not even mind being the heal bot.

Re: Which PHB printing do you use for your games?
5 and 6. I have 2 5th and 1 5th and a PDF printout of the 5th one. I think I will get a 6th printing of M&T and CKG assuming they are full colour. You want the 4th print M&T and the 2nd print CKG. They go with the 6th print PHB and are full color. R- I picked up the PDFs on them on some bun...

Re: New to C&C, some questions to ask
The C&C fighter might actually be weaker than the AD&D fighter (with weapon specialization), The bonuses to hit are worse, the multiple attacks come latter, and spell DCs scale very badly compared with AD&D as wizards get level to spell saving throw. You could make a reasonably good argu...

Re: How'd you get into Castles & Crusades?
Came a bit later. 4E left me cold, stuck with 3.5 until 2009, switched to Pathfinder and burned out on 3.x around 2012. Sister dropped off my AD&D books so we tried out 2E again (last played 2002) and enjoyed it. Players could not really get THACO so started looking at these "retroclone&quo...

Re: Running 3E adventures
Depends on the adventure. 3E encounters would likely be a bit easy on C&C characters and they were designed for 4 PCs to have around 4 encouners per day. Encounter numbers are smaller than AD&D/C&C type games. 3E monster hit harder than OSR type ones. Some of the 3E adventures and APs ar...

Re: The impossibility of dragons.
I always thought 1E dragons were ridiculously weak. 5-7 HD for White Dragons? My view is there is no way a massively strong and powerful creature like a dragon would ever be a pet, like the Frost and Fire Giants had them in the G1-G3 series. Most CJs I've read on various sites have both the White &...

Sexy As Book
For C&C I was using a 5 printing PHB and a print out of the PDF. I have picked up another one on the local auction site but today the 6 printing arrived along with a hard cover Adventurer Conquer King book. Damn its a very pretty book. Great artwork, glossy pages, classes in alphabetical order (...

Huh That Is Borked?
I have not played C&C to the higher levels but 2 things give me cause for concern. Dragon hit dice and the add level to spell DC combined with uncapped damage dealing spells. In AD&D 1E and 2E your saves got better relative to the difficulty of making a save. 2E nerfed the uncapped damage de...

Advantages?
What are peoples opinions here on Advantages. I ran a small game last night and due to that I let the player pick advantages. Most of my players are veterans of the 3E+ era and they seem to like them treating them as feats although TLG seems to have done a better job in terms of power levels than sa...

Well Deep Gnomes were very OP in that book even worse than Drow and Duergar.Treebore wrote:I played a Deep Gnome back in the days of 1E. You know, the write up in UA? I played him as an Illusionist. He was so OP even I agreed to just turn him into a normal gnome.

Castles & Crusades - Verdant Rage
Castles & Crusades - Curse of the Khan
Castles & Crusades - The Heart of Glass
There is an auction in my country for these adventures+ a PHB for $30. The problem being I just ordered another PHB (6 printing) literally last night from Amazon.

Re: 5th Edition
We switched over to 5E. Its the best D&D WoTC has produced to date IMHO and I bought Assault on Blacktooth Ridge for it. We did take a several month break from 5E and played Star Wars Saga Edition for a bit. I'm in New Zealand though and finding players for something that is not Pathfinder or 3E...

Re: Ultimate Campaign for Castle & Crusades
I ran the Kingmaker AP path which had an early version of the kingdom building rules in it. Kind of fun but somewhat intensive in terms of running a duchy or whatever. Not a bad alternative for the land as treasure rules in the CKG if you want a bit more depth.

Re: Do you run C&C with the flavor of a certain D&D edition?
I use it as a modern AD&D or in effect AD&D 3rd ed as I recruit Pathfinder/3.5 players for the most part. I find it easier to teach them C&C as opposed to THACO or having them laugh at 1st ed books although they do not mind 2nd ed.

Re: How Much Would a Castle Cost?
I ended up charging them 150 000 and they have to find a suitable location. They are looking at Troll Bridge or maybe on Blacktooth Ridge itself. They took the Witch Queen prisoner and as a "seer" she revealed the location of the Philosophers Stone in A2 to them and she is playing up the a...

Re: When Was the Winter Dark?
Thanks for the help everyone, I only have the AWD PDF and it was a little confusing and I do not really have a good map of the world either as the $1 only really shows continents and I have no idea what the Empire looks like. They visited Ascalon last night and I kind of modelled it on Carthage.

In terms of 30-40 years ago. I got the impression it was a 1000 years ago but after I read the After Winters Dark PDF I get the impression it is a lot more recent. Any help would be great thanks:).

Re: How Much Would a Castle Cost?
Engineering Castles, while a good supplement, doesn't include costs. The Castle Keeper's Guide (or your DM guides) would be the better starting place. On page 122-124 of the CKG, I think you'll find the info you're looking for. Raw material location, complexity increases cost as does square footage...

How Much Would a Castle Cost?
How long is a piece of string right? I was thinking of a small castle along the lines of the Keep from B2 Keep on the Borderlands. I am thinking of letting the PCs get the Philosophers Stone in A2 in order to fund a small keep for the parties Knight at level 5. The stone will give them 50-250 thousa...

Re: So They Captured The Witch Queen?
A lot would depend on the style and themes of the game, comfort levels and the like, but I see no issue with the Queen trying to seduce and bedding a party member, or several, including the female(s) if it meant it would lower their resistance... especially for charm and enchantment based touch eff...

So They Captured The Witch Queen?
Just started A3 and the PC more or less beelined to the witch queen from level 6 of the Ziggurat. I had her surrender with the highlight of a Gnome Illusionist putting in the beat down with a +2 dagger vs the Goblitts and the Queen. Anyway I am wondering about the classic manipulate the party as the...

Thanks ofr the replies everyone. I just like reading D&D type material. It will take a while to digest all ofthis and we are currently playing A3 which I own in dead tree format and PDF.
$2 PDF adventures are great BTW. Prefer a real copy but if they are cheap enough PDFs are fine.
