Re: Class Ability Check Question
So there are some good points being made by others in this discussion. If I think about it, another option is to take the newer school approach (Advantage/Disadvantage): When using a class ability, the character rolls 2d20 and uses the higher of the two rolls. Another option would be the equipment-b...

Re: Class Ability Check Question
I always adjudicated class abilities checks as being made as if tied to a prime attribute even when not. All other checks for that attribute would be made as usual but class abilities are always treated as tied to primes.

Re: How do you start new players?
I think if I were to start a game today I would use the method that Professor Dungeon Master and many others espouse which involves starting the game out right smack in the middle of a fight. They dont even necessarily know at first what is going on. Ive seen this method used more since The Lazy Dun...

This is a great team for collaboration. The Frog God guys are great and more C&C is always welcome. Is Casey Christofferson still over there? That guy runs a heck of a fun game and is a generally all round good dude.

Re: Bored and thinking about streamlining my game
Glad we can help alleviate the boredom! That's what we're here for. First, forgive me ignorance, but should we assume by "ICRPG", you mean "Index Card RPG"? Just wanted to clarify in my addled brain. And I've honestly never played a ICRPG. The closest thing has been the old Saga...

Bored and thinking about streamlining my game
Was sitting here a bit bored and was thinking about what I would do to optimize C&C to better fit my gameplay style. I really like the way that ICRPG streamlines and handles skill and ability checks. It occurred to me that I could integrate that system into the SIEGE engine system and come up wi...

Re: Bringing spells into C&C
Naw. (what even is ASL? Advanced Squad Leader? Never played it...didn't seem interesting in the least) I play Starmada, Iron Stars, and others. I've looked at games like Attack Vector (3 dimensional play on a 2D surface...nothing like needing to do basic trig functions in your head for range calcs ...

Re: Bringing spells into C&C
I'm in engineering...that doesn't even register on the math meter. ;) lol You should see some of the math in some of the war games I play. getting into square roots, many multipliers/divisors, surface area and shape volumes, etc. If someone is complaining about very simple MDAS stuff...I have to qu...

Re: Why C&C Should Be Your Go-To D&D
I agree that C&C is what "AD&D 3" should have been instead of the 3E that we got. I have a hard time with go-to games because often it comes down to my mood. OD&D has been my go-to game for decades because it's so easy to tweak and house-rule. While C&C is certainly in my ...

Talanian did the setting so much justice it was very sad that so much of his labor will not see the light of day. Jeff is an awesome cat with top notch writing skills and more importantly was Gary's hand-picked scribe for all things Zagyg under the TLG flag.

Re: Jim Ward is in the hospital again...
Jim ran a game for about 10 fortunate souls (of which I was one) at Troll Con a few years back. Even though my Ranger died at the hands of a bumbling cohort, the game was top notch and truly fun. If any of you cats ever get a chance to roll a character at Jim's game table, do not squander the chance.

Re: What Board/Card Games Are You Playing?
If you like Axis and Allies but want a little more "wargamey" WWII game without a steep learning curve check out Band of Brothers Ghost Panzer. That is a solid game with fairly light rules that convey the wargame feel without the overhead of monster games like ASL and the like. It's set on...
