Re: Rules that not in C&C. Could they be part of it?

Most of us play a human 24/7, I don't see why I should have to in my games, too. What's wrong with an all demi-human game?

Re: What is in your perfect homemade DM screen ?

I would put rules that you use but don't come up all that often, or summaries, thereof. I have a monk in my party who occasionally likes to grapple, so a summary of those would be useful to me. Overland movement, the odd combat modifier. You probably know what you don't know, put that on there. Also...

The scattershot creative mind. Current Projects, re-base my Battle fleet Gothic Imperial Navy, paint a Necron BFG fleet, read Ready Player 2, The Girl and the Mountain, Stargrave, and whichever Firefly novel is next. Finish that Human Knight war band, paint those 1/2500 star ships I just printed, le...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?

Just re-read Star Trek Tactical Combat Simulator for a game run yesterday on Roll20. Still a fun game, surprisingly hard to blow a ship up, pretty easy to knock them out of the fight. OK, maybe easy isn't the term I'm looking for. It's been nearly 30 years since I played, but the game holds up well....

Re: Alternative Magic Systems

I really liked the magic system from Iron Crown's HARP Fantasy. It works on a mana pool that increases with level (if you spend development points on it) and you have a skill in a given spell. Using healing as an example, with a low skill, you can heal for X amount of health, as you skill increases,...

Re: Favorite ways to start a new group

Antiquarian, thanks for your answer. Sounds like 5th edition nonsense to me. My son plays that, but I haven't yet. Typically when I start a new group, I start them in the middle of some action, goblin attack, prison escape, sinking ship, that sort of thing. This will give them a shared trauma to bon...

We were moving into A3 Wicked Cauldron when the trouble started, we went online to play, but chose Star Trek as the game.

Re: On dungeon mapping

I use RealmWorks and a TV in my gaming table for maps. I have a piece of acetate to protect the screen from scratches. Admittedly an over engineered solution to being too lazy to draw out the map, but it does add a little wow factor if you get those animated maps.

Re: So what world setting do you typically run C&C in?

The first game I ever ran was set in Middle Earth using 1st ed AD&D. It went about how you'd imagine someones first game going. I've had a ton of fun in Dark Sun and Greyhawk. Played a ton in Forgotten Realms. Now everything is set in Airdhe because I don't have time to build my own world. OK, t...

Re: Popularity of focused v generic game systems

I believe that the specific RPG's are fighting in a crowded market for sales, and the licensed IP will bring it to the attention of fans of that IP. As an experienced player you could, for example, set your C&C game in a high school for wizards. But how many C&C fans are there compared to Ha...

Just finished reading One Word Kill by Mark Lawrence... it takes place in the 80s and the main characters play 1e DA&D... there is also time travel, a heist, and a tiny bit of character growth.
This is a fantastic series, read them all, you won't regret it

Re: Monday Night Ne'er-do-wells Sci Fi

I don't know if I'm allowed to post here, but Star Trek Adventures wouldn't need to be house ruled for lower deck characters, rules are already in place for that, the system just assumes you're playing the command staff of something, star ship, star base, fleet. I'm a fan of the system and find it v...

I tried it once, back in the days of 1st ed. It wasn't particularly difficult, but it was "one more thing" to track. Good for the simulationist, I suppose

Momentum = Determination in the above example. 1 momentum spent gives 1 extra d20 to roll. Determination is more powerful and harder to get, and that extra dice bought with determination is 2 successes. I will be the first to say that there are things about 2d20 that I don't like (extended work trac...

One might argue that an etheric ghost must translate to the material plane to interact in any way with regular old folks, but can shift back and forth at will. That is a heck of a deal for a system that's a ton of fun (once you get the hang of it). If you are a Trek fan, you should get it. That $41 gets you a LOT of material, and 13 adventures.
