Re: SS:EH - Mechwarrior Conversion: Mechs
I think the "Heat" subsystem might not fit real well. It makes sense in BattleTech because you can fire multiple weapons in a single action. But, in SS:EH, you can already only do "one thing plus a move" in a turn as written and you already have a Reliability rating. Your choices on Value seem a bit...

Re: challenge levels
For example, I don't see why sneaking by a stupid giant should be difficulty just because it has lots of HD, or why sneaking past a guard dog should be difficult just because it has fewer HD. I'd rather just think about the whole situation, and then use my judgment to assess a CL using something li...

Re: Making the most of SEIGE
Melire (who, I believe posts here from time to time, but whom I usually see on RPG.net) allows PCs to basically mimic 3.x edition feats with SIEGE rolls and bases the difficulty on how far up the "chain" that feat is. So, you want to cleave? Sure you can! Just make a Str check, with a CL of 1. You w...

Re: Questions about the use of non-class abilities
1) If you always add a CL to the CB based on the level of the opponent, then you really aren't 'improving' in your skill. This is a somewhat bizarre legacy of D&D; as you grow in level, so does everything else you face. So, while your stealth ability might have jumped 9 points from level 1 to level...

Re: StarSiege Relaunch
The problems I see with options 1 and 2 is the "level" systems being based on spent XP (rather than gained XP). Basically, all progression in SSEH is currently based on spending points to get a power-up of some kind. But with the Expertise/Competency levels you're asking players to now also track ho...

Re: Castles and Crusades new edition?
If I were attempting to prove, however, that WotC and their 4th edition no longer dominate the genre, I would point to the fact that WotC is now creating a new edition. A sure sign that they at least realize that their current version has run its course and is drying up. Heck, there are members and...

Re: New Games
Not only are his copy-pasta'd posts mostly rambling nonsense, I disagree with area_51_games' take on "what SSEH should be" so extremely that I can't even convey it without sinking to vitriol. His opinion of "what the Troll Lords should do" is literally the opposite of everything I want in a sci-fi S...

Re: StarSiege Relaunch
OK I well now speak of solid marketing reason why you do not want to continue with star siege 1 printing. one its false advertisement if its siege engine then why is its over 70 % different to its core game? second and most important : if the game is at lease 85% compatible with Castles and Crusade...

Re: SIEGE QUESTIONS
So, is it the "right" thing to have the characters add thier level to those hide attempts (and the orcs to add thier HD to avoid surprise)? Seems reasonable. I really like the smoothness of the system though, and even with the questions some of this brought up, it didn't slow down play a whole lot....

Re: Barbarian, 3rd printing Vs 4th printing
Thanks for the link. I think both versions are pretty cool, I guess I just associate the barbarian with the "rage-like" ability (call it whatever you will). That's mostly a 3.X-ism, I believe. Since C&C tries to draw more of its references from 1E, it makes sense that they'd forgo the 3.X-take and ...

I always took the half-elf "+2 to attribute" ability as basically a sort of demi-Prime. You don't get nearly as awesome a bonus as a real Prime, but it's still a useful bonus for a back up ability score.

Re: Wizard spells: too many per day?
I don't think getting 1 extra spell per day really makes the wizard that much more useful. If anything, it allows him/her to be useful in more than just one fight/situation rather than the classic "one-and-done" problem and left useless for the remainder of the day. Considering that the C&C spell li...

Looks pretty good so far, Koralas.
I like the idea of Hope, Corruption, and Fellowship, though I'm concerned that they may add a few too many mechanics to the mix.
And I'm really curious as to the nature of the Traits and Shadow Weaknesses of the Callings.

Re: Attribute Generation
For C&C, I prefer to use: 1) Roll 3d6 straight down the line. 2) Get a 3d6 re-roll on one result. 3) Swap any two scores. So it keeps a lot of the feel of old-school versions of D&D, but allows a player to: A) mitigate any one "low" score. B) swap two scores to better play a class the player particu...

Re: Tithing for clerics and druids
I'd make tithing voluntary, but grant XP in exchange for the expended gp. Then I'd allow the other PCs to expend gold in other ways that are useless to them (no real net benefit/gain from the expense) to get similar bonus XP. So the barbarian and thief blow their cash on liquor and whores. The fight...

Re: Questions about awarding experience points
Now I'm kind of on the fence about treasure xp. Still way behind and the guys are on their way. Trying to bone up on Blacktooth right now. I actually use a system where the PCs get XP from "blown" cash. If they keep the money to spend on new tools and toys, then no XP. But if they fritter it away o...

Re: StarSIEGE: new armor rules
And there is one downside: Armor levels cannot be higher than 5, otherwise it would be impossible to harm the wearer. To get around this problem, one could use other dice than d6 for the damage roll, but that would render armor ratings of 1 or 2 nearly useless. I'd just go with the idea that Armor ...

Re: C&C Spelljammer
so yes!!! it's just 2nd ed rules and a wacky/cool setting, why wouldn't it? the only minor thing is I think any spell caster (arcane magic only?) can run a spelljammer helm, so there'd be fewer helm-worthy classes... which is fine, really. Actually, any spellcaster could power a helm, divine or arc...

Also, I think I'm changing the Specialty Levels from four to six: Untrained/-2, Trained/+0, Practiced/+2, Experienced/+4, Expert/+6, Mastery/+8. This gives a bit more granularity and reduces the "cap out" a bit. Also, I wanted Specialties to let you be "even better" than the bonus of a Skill Bundle...
