Re: Book of Familiars - Familiar Strength Bonus, what?
In the past Ive just treated the bonus as if it was an ability Adjustment. So a +2 is like saying the creature has a +2 to strength based rolls or bonuses. It works surprisingly well..

Re: new C&C edition vs D&D Next
I played a lot of different versions of the play test. It looks interesting. I personally love the ease of using older edition material with C&C. And buying into WOTC means buying into supplement bloat that doesn't end till a new edition comes out.....I don't really need players handbook 3, DMG ...

Re: What other games do you borrow from besides D&D/Pathfind
I use a lot of material (monsters, adventures, settings) made for OSR games. games like Swords and wizardry, Labyrinth lord, & Basic fantasy. I think any one of these games could be borrowed from easily. Adventures Dark & Deep Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea B/X Companion...

Re: Skilled levels
Every one keeps going back to class abilities on this. As it was pointed out this is available as an advantage. Its really not the point of my idea. I must just use siege rolls for secondary skill rolls differently. Rolls not associated with abilities but rather about "additional knowledge"...

Re: Skilled levels
I'm really thinking of more associated (secondary) skill rolls....like the example of the ranger foraging, Identifying animals or plants. Broader than just a single class ability becoming a class ability. maybe that is a bad example. If you took a skill level in fighter a character could use it on r...

Skilled levels
Ive been toying with the idea of skill levels. I'm pretty strict about only adding class levels when it pertains to skill tied to the class. For example, a ranger foraging or identifying plants/animals. Since that level is how experienced he is as a Ranger. What about giving levels just for skill pu...

Re: How do people handle spell components?
Ive been toying with something a little different. Requiring a roll to cast. Some times using a spell craft roll. If a character uses components, Take the required time, Speak the right words and make the right gestures the roll is normal. For each of these that are not taken into an account its a -...

Re: Racial HD instead of Class HD
Ive always liked the idea of racial HD over class, although Ive never really implemented it. Ive never been totally happy with class based HD. Ive come up with a few options like racial modifiers. Or class based with class modifiers. Even had the idea of both class and racial HD and averaging them. ...

really love the spell crafting rules for Amazing adventures. They has become my preferred spell casting rules for both Amazing Adventures and Castles & crusades. I have been playing around with those rules for a bit now. here is my blog post about it. http://gamingronin.blogspot.com/2013/11/adva...

Re: C&C 10th anniversary
Great to hear 5th has sold so well. Most important thing here is to not allow the PH to go out of print. Although a lot of us have our copies (or many copies) its important to keep the game alive for new players coming into the fold.

Re: Hit Locations , Helmets and Monster Hit Dice
The problem I have with hit location is that hit points are somewhat abstract. And hit location is very spacific. Usually for damage against enemies I translate the damage rolled. Low damage I say it hit a limb. Strong hit is a hit to a vital area. I do allowed called shots though. You dont want to ...

Re: Optional AC Rule for AA and C&C
So I humbly present an alternative. For both AA and C&C (and perhaps any Siege Game), calculate AC as follows: AC=11 + Prime Attribute Modifier + BtH. For C&C, no way. I don't care how good you are with your fists (BtH) and how much weight you can lift. When I shoot you with my cross bow, i...

Re: Optional AC Rule for AA and C&C
I think it looks good. I think its a good middle ground. Shouldn't make any one reliant on any one attribute. But gives quick characters an edge of being able to rely on quickness over armor.
Gives room for magical and gadget armor too.
