Re: Digest version of PHB
I like the smaller format of the digest-sized books, but print of that size would be very off-putting to read. The "pocket-sized hardback"* is my favourite format for a book, but I think you really have to reformat the book and keep the print size. *OK, it's a coat-pocket, but you get the ...

Re: Random Gaming Pics
First, the skull has tape on it. Do we want to know what would happen if that skull was cracked open? Devils? Plagues? Candy dish? Its a big band-aid. Clearly the skeleton cracked his skull trying to get away from a cleric. :D Or else he copped the "Towton tap" just before he gave up resp...

Re: Spelljammer-inspired StarSiege
I'm not sure Spelljammer has anything to add to StarSIEGE. Spelljammer's just a slightly different kind of naval fantasy, while StarSIEGE is science fiction. There's more than enough fantasy gets into SF for my taste as it is.

Never quite got the Scottish dwarf thing (apart from redcaps, naturally). Surely they come from Yorkshire.

Re: The Crusader...as an E-magazine for Nook & Kindle?
I suppose I have a related question. Did any copies of #25 ship to the UK? None of the usual suppliers have reported having a copy of it, and it seems impossible to get hold of. One supplier says that they can get it, but they have no idea when that might be.

Re: WOW! Multicellular Life Evolves in Laboratory - in 60 d
It is funny, but in the way this experiment has been run, they tend to show proof for intelligent design not natural selection... More "Artificial Selection" than "Intelligent Design", I'd say, since the researchers were exerting a selection pressure on the progeny in favour of ...

Re: WOW! Multicellular Life Evolves in Laboratory - in 60 d
I'm such an incorrigible link-hopper; the related article about the ctenophores was fascinating. Back on topic, though, I wonder how the yeast "snowflakes" would behave in a low-oxygen environment? Would that affect their development and selection? It certainly seems that multicellular lif...

I really like this new logo -- and hope that Crusader Magazine (for which we await future issues Real Soon Now) takes this sort of logo. Right now, the Crusader's logo doesn't look like the word "crusader" and wouldn't grab the eye of a potential purchaser. Assuming we can get it into mor...

Re: A quasi-stupid question: age for play
I'd say that 10+ is a perfect age to start RPGs, and simpler ones like C&C are very well-suited to that age group, especially if there's an experienced 'Keeper to help.

Hmm... am I the only one that really digs the current cover? I really like the chimeras in action. No, not just you. It took a little getting used to, but I do really like it. Then again, I still really like the original parchment/map covers, but then I've got a bit of a Thing about maps. It seems ...

Re: Musketeers!
I saw the first trailer for this a few months ago and was aghast. On newer viewings, I find myself mildly intrigued. I have little doubt that we will see a fun little action flick with stunning CGI effects and stunt scenes so beautifully choreographed that the shade of Nureyev will weep in envy. Wil...

Re: Does Crusader plan regular publishing dates?
Very much agree with the general sentiment here. While it seems that the monthly schedule was not ultimately sustainable, a bi-monthly, quarterly, even an annual publication, would be vastly preferable to the current irregularity. It's great to have an honest-to-goodness, paper and print magazine in...

Yes, but if it worked that way, the bec-de-corbin would inflict out-of-proportion damage on unarmoured targets.

Re: How Many Players?
I like to have five or six players at a table, though four is my favoured minimum. Once or twice I've had as few as two. Such a thing happened at a convention game I was running, but the good ol' C&C system allowed me to strip down the adventure I'd written for four-to-six players including at l...

Re: Planned or Random
I enjoy creating both planned and random dungeons. Sometimes a random setup will suddenly click into place and you can see a purpose for it all, and sometimes it's turns out like some mad god's Labyrinth of Incorrigible Naughtiness. At the same time, it's quite nice planning and putting together a d...

Re: RIP Kylie the Crusader Cat
One of the most tragic aspects of our furry companions is that they don't live anything like as long as we do. Still, at least she had a happy life with you, which is what really counts. Also, you were there with her to the very end, which I think is desperately important.
I'll hoist one for Kylie.

Listening to, and watching, The Levellers play at the Reading Hexagon during their "Chaos Theory" tour. I caught up with them at Brum for that one; a damn good tour.

Re: Is E6 in C&C possible?
I must admit that I've never quite grasped the "why keep playing?" argument. After all, none of these rewards have any reality- it's all just a game, and I play it to have fun. If I'm playing the same character for six years solid, it's because I like that character and enjoy playing him. ...

#24 will probably take a wee while to get over here, what with the bank holidays and the backlog from the snowy weather we've been having, but it'll be lovely to get hold of an issue again. I do agree with JediOre about the binding, though; on a nice, slim little mag like the Crusader, staple bindin...
