Re: Racial weapon skills

I think that no matter what way you go, a first level wizard is likely a dead wizard if they are resorting to using the sword. Even if they have the same tH as a fighter at first level, they don't have the same AC, str, or HP as most fighters.

Re: Epic heroes deserve epic enemies

Epic heroes deserve epic enemies. … Over the decades I've found that 99.9% of the players playing "Epic level" PC's can be wiped out EASILY using the monsters found in the basic Monster Manual. IF played with the intelligence and experience they would actually posses. I think this depends greatly o...

Re: Starting level for a new campaign

I Having been playing D&D for 20+ years I am tired of both playing and running low level characters. I personally like starting at 9th level or higher. I tend to draw inspiration for Connan, Gotrek and Felix and Pulp fantasy were the story starts after the characters are already well established in ...

Re: Class Abilities and the Prime Attribute

Okay, So this has been a very enlightening thread for me. Foremost, thanks to all for pitching in. I've learned a few things here. 1) Some of you like the idea of the change as it unifies the principle behind the prime, makes the game easier to explain and play, particularly in a convention setting...

Re: Is the rogue "hosed" ?

If you go by level only then the rogue has a large disadvantage, but if you use XP, the rogue does well. Keep in mind his special attacks scale with level and should counter act some of the other classes bonuses. I played a number of 24th level games and the rogue was very good, the extra attack at ...

Re: Players Handbook Six

Include the expanded attribute table from the CKG and the expanded level sections for the characters. It is much easier to look it up in one place, and when you are making high level NPCs for an adventure it is also much easier for the CK.

TROLL: This impacts house rules.

Re: Atk vs ac

I actually meant adding in some additional materials other than the exisiting ones. Omote has a pretty good selection of special materials in some of his AC&C stuff. I have also used extended craftsmanship bonuses. For Example Mass Produced -1(to hit or damage) Expert Craft +1(to hit or damamge) Gre...

Re: Pair of Magic Daggers

Hmmm...was just looking at the dual wield description and it says... The attack with the primary hand is at -3 and the attack with the off hand is at -6. These penalties are affected by the character’s dexterity modifier. The character’s strength modifier only applies to damage inflicted. So, you d...

My group rolls the extra dice. I personally like it that way as you get to toss a bunch of dice like you stabbed them with a Fireball.

Re: Fighters

Fighters have an extra attack option - 2 weapon fighting. Since they have the highest BtH they have the best chance of being successful. 2 attacks is very powerful in C&C and I would not add them lightly, they will unbalance the game. The only change I would consider is making shield bash a normal a...

I wouldn't think Beauty would effect combat. I think other than high beauty being disguised for an assassin you could think of them like James Bond. Using his stunning good looks to get to his target.

Re: Please Explain how the beauty attribute is supposed to w

I know it's optional, that was why I was asking about intent. I personally like having it as a stat even if it is effectively meaningless mechanically. It helps frame the character better for me. For instance a 20 is like a rockstar or brad pit, women love him and guys want to be him. As apposed to ...

Re: Please Explain how the beauty attribute is supposed to w

Thanks for your input everyone. Since Omotes game prompted my question, maybe he could clarify specifically how it works in his game. I don't find the description in the CKG to be very helpful and since it is an attribute in the game, knowing how it works would be nice. Generically, I also don't min...

Please Explain how the beauty attribute is supposed to work

I need some help understand the intent of the Beauty attribute and how it is supposed to work? Particularly the last couple paragraphs in the CKG. Do you add bonuses and penalties to all charm based abilities or to just ones granted from high beauty? Also, mass suggestion when glimpsed, how do you g...

Re: High Level Monsters for C&C adventure - 24th level+

Thanks for the ideas. I really like the concept of playing with the elemental forms to go counter to the PC's expectation.
The alien thing may be a little over the top for the game I working on but the concept of being trapped between 2 equally terrible choices is interesting.

High Level Monsters for C&C adventure - 24th level+

At last GenCon I ran an adventure called Orcus Unbound during some open gaming. This is a 24th level adventure set somewhere near bard's Gate. For GenCOn 2012 I plan to run Orcus Unbound again and also an all new adventure. However, I need some help creating some high level monsters that will be sui...

First Tome of Horrors Complete - Now this. Rappan Athuk - kicks all kinds of butt. I would be very interested in a C&C version of this as I don't play S&W or pathfinder.
