Re: Check out TLG's C&C short film promo...

Very cool, it should be front page! The twist in the story is particularly clever and cute.

Edit: Whoops, just checked and it IS front page. Anyway, all-around great job!

Re: Favorite Critical Hit Systems?

Buttmonkey's system is the one employed in HackMaster 4th edition and it does indeed work very well. The math also does check out: there is no benefit for rolling a penetrating 1d4 vs rolling a penetrating 1d12, since 1d4's penetrate three times as often but 1d12's penetrate for three times as much ...

Re: Favorite Critical Hit Systems?

Karolas' suggestion is very reminiscent of Fields of Battle, although using average hit points instead of UHP. Its a good system and works well for larger skirmishes up to small battles.

Re: Ranged Weapons That Miss Their Target...

I don't mind using the "hit ally on a 1" rule, but I would probably levy a to hit penalty for shooting into combat in the first place (maybe -4).

Re: Favorite Critical Hit Systems?

I used to use double damage on a 20. Nowadays, I think I would just improvise a special effect that would be different and interesting.

Re: A smart good spider

The old computer game Exile: Escape from the Pit had a clan of happy, friendly giant spiders. They were visually identical to the evil "Arachnea" giant spiders except for their squeaky, high pitched voices and indefatigably chipper attitude.

Re: New Class: The Yeoman

@serleran, I don't think I would allow Fletcher to work with magic arrows at my table for the sole reason that you can't be customizing magic items without some serious arcane ability yourself. @Buttmonkey, Dual Shot can be used with the Target abilities! I was thinking of allowing it with the trick...

Re: New Class: The Yeoman

Yah I had my eye on that ability too, to be honest. Initially, I was thinking to put in the clause "the target must be unaware of the yeoman in order to use this ability"—kind of like a sneak attack. That way, it would only be useful if the party planned well and got the drop on the enemy (and even ...

New Class: The Yeoman

I was paging through my Black Box today and thinking about the Archer class. I like the concept of an archer character class, but I feel that players might be disappointed if they were looking for a combat archer that could stand toe to toe with the C&C fighter. So I decided to jot down my own solut...

Re: Thoughts on the Elemental Spells PDF?

True, some of the spells are oddballs. Boost Modifiers (guess what it does?) is particularly a little too much "fourth wall breaking" for my taste. That said, I don't mind at all when some spells are more powerful than others... Seems just part and parcel of magic and spell creation. HackMaster had ...

Re: Level advancement

I've never heard of anyone else dong it this way, but the method I use is to assign XP as normal and simply not divide it between the players. If the five PC party kills a 10 XP orc and finds 70gp, everyone gets the same 80xp award. It is based on my earliest (mis)understanding of the AD&D 2nd editi...

Re: Nate's New Sunday Night Game

I'm ok with clerics although, at level 1, I'm not sure how much healing I could throw out! Maybe I'll let the dice tell me which it will be. I am east coast so 8pm to 11pm is indeed a bit tricky for me. I might be able to show up for a part of that time... Likely 8:45 to 10pm or so, but I don't want...

Re: Nate's New Sunday Night Game

Hey, what time/timezone do you guys play on Sundays? If it is too late, it might be tough for me (at least for the rest of Ramadan), but I've been itching for some C&C lately. I would most likely run a NG Knight.

Re: Merging C&C and GUMSHOE

The initial problem you might run into is that C&C doesn't have a skill system (or at least a skill system used universally across classes). One option might be to add such a system, which would be easy but could infringe on the territory of the flexible and rules-light SIEGE system. The other optio...

Re: A good bit of timing for newcomers to compare C&C and 5e

"our edition of choice of the broader game that is D&D." That's an interesting and accurate way to put it. For me, D&D stopped being D&D with the release of 3rd Edition... the change to focusing on character builds and powers (which admittedly must have been a direction inspiration from the notorio...

Re: Range attacks into melee...

I've always just said something like "ok, you can take the shot, but there is an X% chance that you'll hit your ally..." Then I just roll percentile dice, if they agree to the risk, and a "success" (I mean, rolling equal or less than the percent chance) means an automatic roll of the damage dice to ...

Hi all, I am the poster of the RPG.net post. To be fair, I am actually in complete agreement with everything you've all said. As I posted on RPG.net, I don't think there actually is a problem with primes, since you can build the niche you want. My true question is "can we start thinking of the new k...

[Castle Zagyg]OD&D+Chainmail Game

Hey all, I've been considering running some players through Castle Zagyg using the original three little booklets and Chainmail (and no house rules or other supplements). Is there any interest in this kind of game? Is anyone curious how D&D works with Chainmail? Please post here if you are interested.

Skype can be downloaded from http://www.skype.com

Just install, set yourself up with a screenname and you should be able to sign in. I'm on a mac, so I'm not sure how the install stuff looks on a PC, but from my side it's really straightforward.
